Mocco to the semis after a filthy quarterfinal TF.

Huge matchup coming up next.

So excited for this one. Merrill feels like a tough match up for Mocco right now. So strong and solid with great feet. Mocco is still growing into his frame a bit. Not worried at all about Mocco. Excited to see how he stacks up right now. Should be the first of many great match ups.

Melvin Miller.....any chance Tom can apologize to Mrs. Bassett?
I really do wish that door was left at least a crack open and Bassetts could reconsider. But, I think there is just too much bad vibes on both sides and the ship has sailed.

Impressive first period for Mocco. Two great attacks. One tough finish on the edge. Close to another, but only gets 1. Merrill trying to push, but not close to scoring at any point. 3-0 at the break.

Merrill starting to move Mocco around a bit. May be wearing on him. Mocco on the clock. 3-1 Merrill now.

Great reattack Mocco, looking to finish, but settles for 1. 4-1 Mocco.

Merrill coming forward. Mocco dancing on the edge. Starting to look real tired. Pushout Merrill. 4-2.

Big call on the edge here. Mocco tried to ground himself. Merrill spins behind. Official gives caution and 1 to Merrill. Conference at the table. Break helps Mocco, but he may be losing at the end of the conference. Under review. 4-3 Mocco as of now.

Caution and 1 confirmed. Mocco starts down and Merrill gets a gut. And another and another. That should do it.

Size very much the difference in this one. Some really good stuff from Mocco though.

Agreed. That match was a good example of what many have been saying. Merrill has 30 lbs on Mocco and didn't score any points on moves that count for points in folkstyle, while Mocco frequently got to the legs and had the only TD.

Merrill is good, but he's going to struggle big time with Mocco + 30 more lbs.

Merrill and Ross will be interesting. Merrill had late leads in both their matches this summer. Ross has only gotten 1 takedown in 12 min of wrestling. I expect another tight one tonight.

Sucks that we’ve just missed getting Mocco/Ross this entire summer.

Damn. Big Mocco loses in the semifinals to Merrill and little Mocco loses to Hutcherson. Iowa needs to get Hutcherson and Little Mocco. Ross looks phenomenal. Just saying...

Mocco wins by 10-0 TF over Dean Bechtold (ranked #4 nationally and committed to Lehigh in 2026).

He’ll face 2026 Princeton commit #11 Mark Effendian in the 3rd place bout.
Mocco won 5-2 to close out his tournament.

That’ll wrap it up for Hawkeye commits/signees at Fargo. I’ll have a recap published in the next day or so.

He didn't.

It was an odd prediction. Similar to Mocco, size is an issue. If Ross stays healthy he will widen that gap.

Oof someone has their Iowa blinders cause they’re mad he owns mocco

No one is concerned about the thin gap between them.

There isn’t room for all these guys.

So guessing since we got big Mocco then that means Iowa takes in little Mocco over Hutcherson? Great, let's let PSU get Hutcherson and he will be a force in college.

Mocco is a totally different type of wrestler than his dad. He already is more athletic and quick, with a much more varied offense with many leg attacks. He just needs to add some of his dad’s thickness and power and he will be a top college heavy.

I agree. I think he will be just fine in college when he puts on a little more weight.

I do think some are being a little too dismissive of Merrill. Kid is a great athlete and already big. He also can attack the legs. He's going to be very good in college. Reminds me a bit of a more athletic Cassioppi.

Never been a concern for PSU. Shouldn't be a concern with Iowa.

These are 197/HWT types. Would be a concern anywhere. If they were low to mid-weight guys, much less of a concern. Not that I don't get your point.

This is a fair point. He will be good. Appropriate to underline that.

Maybe. Framing it like it’s Iowa’s choice is an interesting take.
I would guess Little Mocco is a HWY and Hutcherson a 197. so little Mocco doesn't really make sense given that his brother likely takes an Oly RS with Keuter blocking him, there would be too much overlap with both Moccos - but who knows

What’s the age difference between the Mocco’s?
