And this isn't a terrible idea... we'd be more likely to pick up a few more wins by playing more opponents from the current east.

I'm a big picture guy understand the Egg bowl isn't the end all be all, but the last thing I want is our bitter rival, OM, getting to play Vandy, Mizzou and MSU while MSU plays OM, LSU and Bama every year.

17 that.

The NCAA requires the league to split into divisions and play round robin within the divisions to have a championship game. No way the SEC is going to give that revenue up.

The NCAA will never allow a 2-round playoff for a conference title.

which is where we are apparently heading. That means you'll only get one team from the other division, or we have to move to 9 conference games. Neither of which are appealing to me. I don't see us standing at 14 teams. And hey, it works for the NFL and MLB and the NBA.

I'd be happy to entertain better ideas, but I don't like two 8 team divisions.

Some guy on the SEC staff noticed the rule and realized that if the SEC added 2 teams they could have a championship game. So the SEC added Arkansas and South Carolina.

when we get to 16 i could see 4 4-team pods. might still be split roughly between east/west or could go to a semi-final set up.

you play each team in your pod every year (3 games), each pod plays another pod kinda like how the NFL divisions rotate (4 games), then 2 steadily rotating opponents (2) for a total of 9 games. each rotation occurs every 2 years (home and home).

it would look something like:

west: lsu, arky, a&m, mizzou
south: msu, om, bama, aub
east: fla, uga, usce, vandy
north: tenn, ky, 2 acc teams to be named later

obviously depending on the 2 new teams things could change.
