While watching a recent college baseball game the announcers stated that there will be a transition to the use of the minor league baseball next year. They showed pictures of the current baseball and the minor league ball. The seams on the ball were noticeably tighter/smaller. this should affect the hitting and possibly the pitching. This may make for an interesting season next year. Any of you know any more details?

The laces aren't as high which means less movement on pitches. Should improve the offense some.

I think I saw a sports science on that. If I'm not mistaken they said that fly balls will go about 10 feet further as well due to lack of wind resistance with the seams or something like that. Should be Interesting to see how much it changes the amount of runs scored and home runs.

Unless our guys pump a lot of iron between now and next spring, 10 extra feet isn't going to mean anything noticeable.

Next year's team should have more pop on it. The middle of the lineup will feature:

Heck
Walker
Collins
Humphreys
Gardner

Walker and Collins lead the team in slugging in SEC games.

Pitchers have also said it helps them move the ball better. Michael roth has said that. And graveman said it has helped him with his slider.

Where did you see this? Sunken seams are a disadvantage to the pitcher. It cuts down on the bite they can get with a breaking ball.

I would think that, too. It'll be very interesting to see how it affects guys like Gentry and Mitchell who rely on a lot of movement.

Not sure why we really need a new ball. I watched all 9 innings Friday night and we barely scuffed the one we're playing with now.

How good is Reed for UK?

Guy has 21 hrs. That is RIDICULOUS power for this era in college baseball. Sucks for him that they have no one to help him.
