hell yes. Fire him. I'm not totally off the Cohen bandwagon yet (not that I was ever totally on it), but he's got to show some results soon.

but next year is when we will probably make our big move. For the Cohen haters out there--eat ****. He has litterally had to piece this program back together player by player and a good start is two straight top ten classes. This with plenty of infighting and criticism from members of the Shrine of all Things Polk and their cult worshipers. Please don't start with the Oregon turned it around in two years. This is the SEC, by far the toughest conference in the land, with back to back National Championships. This is not the sorry *** Pac-10 er 11.

He's definately one of the top five players in the state of Mississippi- most people would say he's one of the top three. He will be a dual position guy for us- I'm thinking that he will play RF and be a closer for us. I think that he will hit for power and average, and he will steal a few bases. Obviously, he has a great arm. He needs to work on his defense a little bit.

As a pitcher, he struck out 100 guys in only 49 innings. If you're not Troy McClure, that's over two an inning. That said, he does need to work on his control, I believe he had 24 walks in those 49 innings.

My biggest question about him is his competition. He plays at Wheeler, which is a 1A school. That said, he had a really good summer at the Sun Belt Tournament.

Another very good pick up for us that fills a couple of needs.

with a lot of players from Mississippi- some that we "didn't want". Stephen Head, Seth Smith, Brian Pettway, Brae Wright, and Will Kline. That was one thing I was complaining about for years- how we would ignore guys in out own backyard. Cohen has done pretty well in Mississippi- who was best recruit last year? Chris Stratton from Tupelo.

But you will be happy to know that we are recruiting Will Cox- 6'4" 215 (I'm not 100% on the weight, but he's big), Trevor Fitts who has committed is 6'2", and Spencer Turnbull who is 6'2" as well.

I'm not saying that Mississippi is in the realm of the big states like California, Florida, Texas, or Georgia, but we are in the top half of all states in the country when it comes to producing baseball talent based on the MLB draft. That's pretty remarkable considering the population of our state.

Keep in mind that half of the top ten classes are other SEC schools who have been having consistent top 10 classes. Our Fr. and Soph. top ten classes will be going against their Jr. and Sr. top ten classes. As long as Cohen doesn't have any huge melt downs or kills a player and keeps his wild eyes toned down and makes good coaching decisions, I'm onboard. We aren't going to have any pitching depth again this year, so expect some strange decisions concerning pitchers. It is just going to take a little time and better luck with injuries.

It takes talent to win in the SEC- and we haven't had it lately. I dont think Polk hardly ever left campus to recruit the last few years- it was camps or nothing. And thats why we are in the shape that we are in. This program was neglected for awhile, and it takes time.

We have been the least talented SEC team in baseball the last 6 years. Let that sink in. Who would have thought they would see those days?

in that it will give us an opportunity to play some guys and give our freshmen some at bats and a chance to learn and adjust.

As far as the pitching the past three years, I think the biggest problem has been injuries. Specifically to key pitchers. I'm considering whatever happened with Rickey Bowen an injury- albeit a mental one. If Routt and Stratton are healthy we should be OK. Devin Jones needs to step up- as a starting pitcher. Also, Micheal Dixon, who had Tommy John surgery last season could really help us out in the bullpen.

And to go back to what you said about depth- when you have injuries it totally wipes out your depth. If you have a starting pitcher that goes down, besides obviously weakening your rotation, it also weakens your bullpen because now you have to move one of your relievers- probably one of your better ones- to the rotation. And now you're putting that relief pitcher in a situation to where he is not as comfortable, and hence less effective.

We were at one of my daughter's soccer matches about two months ago and Tupelo was in attendance with Chris's sister "Cat" as the goalie, she is the best goalie in the state and one of the best in the South. Anyway, my son who is nine finally got the nerve to ask Chris for his autograph and he glady complied and then went out to his car and brought back a baseball card pack of all the players on the current roster. Of course my son was thrilled and I became a big Chris Stratton fan, class act and class family.
