velcrogel pads(or whatever works best)to the back half of the helmet. Use a very thin stip of velcro so that it comes off very easily and can't be used as a handle when tackling.

and noticed on his wall that he had patented a design for a football helmet. Looked basically like you could use your head as a battering ram. Had kind of a flexible cast protectionaround the neckso your neck wouldn't buckle but also allowed mobility. I think it attached at the pads and helmet
