OUR fans....

Yeah I actually go to games man so it means something. It won't affect you because you haven't been to campus in what 10 years?

ETA: I said 'if no rigs are allowed'. No doubt the LFL needs renovation to make it accessible but the rigs should not be affected.

I'm all for changing it in such a way where more fans have a chance to sit out there. I've been going to games for ten years and have sat out there twice. If you don't know someone out there, good luck getting a spot.

Are they going to change the deck? Shirley they won't mess with the deck.

Dude its going to be a completely different stadium INCLUDING the left field lounge. I don't understand why you people keep talking about your wants and needs to update our current stadium. There's no way to fix that current stadium. I don't understand why people don't understand this logic.

And in no way is he going to destroy the character of the lounge. Just because a rig isn't sitting on the same dirt that paw paw spat his dip spit on in 89 doesn't mean it loses character.

stadiums are no longer looked at as "getting the job done". they are a recruiting tool and a statement about the program. you are right though, ours is currently just getting the job done, which says more about us than we can host a baseball game. its a commitment thing and when a traditionally cash poor program finds itself in a tidal wave of cash, its a move we need to make, especially considering we are now one of the worst in our conference when at one point, we were the best. what else would we do with the money? we have committed ourselves to nice facilities. football was upgraded, basketball was upgraded, why leave baseball untouched when you have the money to spend and will for the next decade plus? i think you know this already.

this is our freaking current training room:

although our drop ceilings, cinder block rooms, and laminate tile floors were nice in the 80's (i suppose), they arent anymore. why sit on that money while the baseball team continues to live in this comparable squaller?

Good. It's time to let this version of LFL die and tear down our blight of a grandstand. A modern stadium with a modern LFL 2.0 which pays homage to LFL 1.0 is the way to go.

I never said "do nothing," I just said I think the basic structure itself is fine, and a renovation makes more sense than a "new stadium."

There's plenty of work to be done, I just think that the guts of Dudy Noble/Polk-DeMent could be made into something top tier.

I have no position on what should be done, but people fooling themselves into thinking the LFL can simply be recreated are fooling themselves. If it was easy to copy, other schools would have done it. Maybe with our tradition it doesn't matter what we do as long as there are grills and beer out there; I think there is a decent chance that's the case. But people that are certain it won't matter are fooling themselves. You mess with emergent phenomena at your peril.

Other than cowbells, name an MSU tradition that is bigger than LFL. Go ahead, I'll wait.

I'm so sick & tired of you people bitching about the destruction of your traditions when you haven't even seen the actual - - Whoops, wrong fan base. As you were.

What % of people freaking

out about the LFL are current LFL spot-holders who feel threatened that they may have to start paying a (market value) premium, would you say?

Talked to a higher-up earlier this summer that specifically said they're going to "reinvent" the outfield for legal purposes. There's apparently a growing safety issue attached to a lot of the older shanties.

He insinuated that it would be fixed structures. A byproduct he said was that it would also be more inviting, which I guess I could understand.

Probably is going to be unpopular at first, just like anything. It'll eventually be though.

It's really 17ing

comical.

January - March = Fire Ray
Feb - June = Fire Cohen
Jan - Dec = Fire Strickland
Jan-Feb, Aug - Oct = Fire Bracky

It's like one big 17ing Southpark episode

The basic structure is a mess. One trip to trustmark shows that a few decades in stadium age is lightyears in terms of a quality ballgame experience.

Way easy ...

'Bitching' is a whole lot bigger tradition than the LFL.

Shoot, some fans were upset when LT left cause they had less to ***** about.

Lets see ... between DWS addition, Strick, Hump basketball atmosphere, Bracky, smelly cups, Jumbotorn Commercials, Mullen play selection, parking passes, Hevesy, Damian Robinson, football re-seating, Rick Ray, students leaving football games early, Dudy Noble remodel, football play selection, attacking a 1-3-1 zone, hotdogs ... etc ... etc

Nope, bitching is way bigger than the LFL.

I heard the cost difference to renovate DNF to the standard we all want vs tearing it down was negligible.

Agree that it's not realistic to think we will retain the essence of LFL, but it's a necessary tradeoff for a much better experience for everyone.

Thanks for the info. But, I hate doing things for 'safety' when people aren't getting hurt. In fact, the only accident I can remember in LFL was the result of the University constructed deck in right field collapsing.

Yes. Much better to wait for a disaster to happen before we start to think about safety. **

there are a lot of things wrong with the structure. have you never watched a game from the bleachers? you cant fix bad sight lines though many have tried to justify that you could. it just doesnt work in that space. the smart thing would be to start over while trying to preserve what made the old one great (read LFL). what is the shelf-life on dudy noble as-is or even renovated? the press boxes leak, there isnt enough room under the grandstands for the players (see pic of training room), things need to be totally gutted, the sight lines are ****, the concessions and restrooms dont pass muster, and there is an access issue in the outfield. marry that with having one of the best mlb stadium designers in the country willing to lend a hand (albeit, her level of input is questionable at this point) and coming into a stupid amount of money for the distant future and its a no-brainer. trying to work around the few things that do work while getting everything else up to par would be just getting in the way and poor ROI in the long run.

Be prepared to be disappointed. The rigs don't make the lounge in my opinion and my opinion counts just as much as yours.

Also, do you travel over 700 miles one way for a weekend baseball game? Didn't think so.

I see it in two lights. They can have an inspection process, yeah, but there's still a liability issue.

For example, I've been in the KS lounge and that place has sharp rusty edges and tiny stairs begging for people to fall off them. Would any MSU student or fan sue the school if they fell or got cut? Probably not. There would be another Cubs-in-the-NLCS situation, and that person would be flogged and buried somewhere in the Noxubee County Refuge.

But they could, so no one owning the bond for that stadium will ever be able to insure the project knowing people are putting 30 year old rusty and hastily made structures out there. AND in the last 3-4 years DNF has become a LOT more visible, and we've started to get a LOT more random fans to stop by. And with this being built with postseason in mind, that's again a big issue.

It's a change, sure, but how much of a change is it really? The story of an old truck being stuck there and the process of that turning into redneck skyboxes is still intact. It's not going to be popular at first, but in time even the guy who hates it the most right now is going to be bragging about how awesome it is in 5 years.

It's good for the university any which way you spin it. Those alone will generate so much money, we might actually win it now.
