MR's comments went beyond speculation. He was overtly advocating for Terry Smith.

I smell something......Terry Smith is trying very very hard to get the HC job, including the recruitment of media personalities to speak on his behalf. MR's advocacy seemed a bit contrived to me.
This would be the truth.

Look I don’t blame him either I’d do the same. But let’s call a spade a spade.

I like Terry Smith. I think he has done a good job and clearly showed that JF had some real coaching issues at least this year. Smith came in and stabilized and corrected things. Having said that there is a lot that goes into being the head man at a Power 5 school. Turning the reins of a gazillion $ program over to the nostalgic interim would be a huge gamble that historically hasn’t paid off in similar situations most of the time. This is a long term hire. A top 15 program generally doesn’t bring in someone who was just a quality position coach. If Kraft brought in an experienced GM and spent huge $ for assistants It might be a little more palatable.

Agreed, but absent a "home run hire" like Deboer or Elko, assuming Meyer is out of play, who is better than Terry Smith as a "long term hire?" Just a few off the top from yesterday: Brohm (Louisville) got tromped by SMU, Key (GT) got killed by Pitt, Drinkwitz (Mizzou) got put down by Oklahoma (not unexpected but still). Chesney (JMU) keeps rolling - my question is, is a proven HC from FCS better than a guy like Smith who bleeds blue and white and is making lemonade out of lemons? I mean, Chesney is as much a gamble as Smith - at least with Smith you know what you got.

Kraft did what he had to do, fired Franklin. Little did he know (maybe he did) that his problems were just beginning!

Breneman claiming there’s “a big name in the mix nobody is talking about” and it’s on par with Reilly to USC a few years ago.

This tweet is within the hour - he could just be recycling the Deboer stuff. FWIW

You won’t know who the home run hire is for years. It’s a lotto ticket.

What hiring Terry Smith does is never buy the ticket and committing to Good Enough for at least a few years.

And if one thinks that Smith is a lotto ticket as well, that’s ok, but then commit to 5 years and what you’d have paid Hartline. The fact that everyone is advocating “3 years and he’ll come cheap” is our version of what Nebraska is doing with Rhule.

Try me….name a few? Let me start for you: O$U in 2016.Give me a tne signature road wins. Purdue?

The reason you will not bite as you know you will make an absolute fool of yourself as there are none!

I can rattle off a bunch that I have attended when Coach Paterno was in charge. Heck, I can name more in one random month than Franklin has in his entire career.
See, you proved it…you didn’t even mention Utah in a NY6 bowl…or two playoff wins last year. I can rattle off a lot more, but you’ll just say they aren’t good…that’s called arguing with a fool and one can ever win doing that.

Franklin needed to be fired, period. No matter what happens with the coaching search/hire.
And look what happened during him half way through the year…now all these people are pressuring him to hire Franklin’s assistant. Not a good move.

To me, Kraft letting this search drag on as long as it has creates what we had last night- players and fans holding signs in support of Terry, former players including Blackledge fawning over Terry, fans chanting his name. Kraft has now put himself in a corner. Only out is to hire Terry or hire big big name like Deboer etc. Key Chesney Drink won’t satisfy now.
Honest question: who do you think Kraft should have hired by now? Because the only guys available before the end of the regular season were either just fired or they’re “retired”.

I guarantee every one of Kraft’s legitimate options is still coaching and there is no possible way he could have hired any one of them by now. Give it another week or two. Our search was always going to take this long.

The only 2 non NFL guys I could think of would be Swinney if he wanted a change from Clemson or Heupel at TN.

We are already spending a huge amount on assistants.

That’s your list…beating SMU and Potato State?! My goodness how standards have fallen..

Makes for a good laugh though…

I guess you are mystified why Franklin got fired.

Let’s summarize: your list is Ohio State Utah, SMU, and Potato State?

A veritable murders row. For 11 years.

I’d be laughing more but you are serious, I guess…

I also enjoy listening to him, but saying that was distasteful.
I used to have a lot of respect for MRob but watching him on tv its apparent he's changed from an informative, candid and sincere taking head to one that's self serving and a " yes man" for whatever serves his best interest.

MRob always talked about Joe even when the press didn't. He is Penn State proud
and knows what's going on more than the NBC post game panel.

I disagree and in case you didn’t notice, the recruiting class fell apart quickly. And Kraft can’t name a replacement anytime soon, so it gives more recruits and current players more time to leave. Also, by the way the players reacted, there’s no way Franklin lost the locker room.
By the way they reacted in the UCLA and NW game it's clear Franklin did lose the locker room. Terry brought it back.

Nobody is going to commit until a new coach announcement is made. I'm not sure why anyone would expect otherwise.
Agree. But in the context of the original conversation, the post I was responding too was acting like none of the commits were leaving for VT. We just don’t know yet how it will all shake out.

Why do you put words in peoples mouths and make strawman arguments where there is no argument. I said what I said and that's all I said. To make something else out of it is you stirring the pot.
It's called sarcasm, look into it.

It’s Lane Kiffin. Check out Josh Pate’s recent tweet.

If Terry Smith gets the job it proves Penn State isn’t serious about being a national title contender. Penn State fans have blind loyalty and this clamoring for Terry is purely emotional. Just because your favorite barista for the last 13 years is extremely passionate about making your chai tea latte doesn’t mean they should be CEO of Starbucks.

I don’t see kiffin at PSU.

It was reported that kiffin’s family recently visited Gainesville and Baton Rouge. What about State College?

Kiffin would be great for Penn State. He knows how to architect a high scoring offense machine. Something Penn State has not experienced since Joe Moorhead departed.

Tell you one thing that would be a good that came out of Terry becoming coach, you probably get to keep Knowles.
