I know I just posted earlier in the evening that nobody knows, but in all seriousness since then there is again a lot more smoke around Deboer this evening. Not the first time from insiders. This is either going to be him or more likely in my opinion Terry or Chesney. Both Deboer and Chesney are likely heading to the playoffs, so we will see how that works out. I don’t think the other candidates are on the table anymore. In fact, drink may be getting a contract extension or raise this week as the mizzou board has a meeting. Krafty did a great, great job getting the college football coaching world the money they deserve. 🤪 And we wonder why the players want more money.
Been seeing the Drink talk - he just got an extension last summer and now another. Missouri thinks way higher of him than any other program. Nobody was going to end up hiring him anyway.

What’s the Deboer chatter? Any different from last week?

Word VERY EARLY is that Shanahan was reached out to and then almost immediately the word from several sources is that Kraft was, in no uncertain terms, wanting a sitting HC or someone not working (IE Urban) in order to not have a lost year on the field.

My 3 I said I wanted ALL THE WAY BACK to the UCLA week when we were doing hypotheticals, when asked for my candidates on this board plus a Wild Card were:

Chesney
Shanahan

Wild Card:

Bill O'Brien
Interesting. Does beg the question why Kraft didn't just shake hands with Urban and offer him the job after his interview. I am getting the impression that Kraft is one of those bosses that word gets around, "you don't want to work there."

And yet he’s best friends with Matt Rhule… who used to work for him

Rhule took the Temple job before Kraft became Assistant AD, and long before Kraft became Temple's AD. Rhule left for Baylor shortly after Kraft became AD.

I remember a guy in the company I worked for that had a reputation as a difficult guy to work for/with. Another guy was a friend of his and I asked a friend of that friend why this guy would spend time outside the company with this difficult guy. The guy said that the friend said the "difficult guy" was a totally different guy outside the office and fun to be with. 🤷‍♂️

Was told by a person who works at a media outlet covering psu that the urban interview went awful. Had no real answers and wanted to get the job because he’s Urban. Was too good to engage in any discussion at all.

Will add this was well before word spread that he was falling down the rungs. I believe the guy.

Now whether they made up since then I don’t know.

If Urban wanted the job they should have given it to him regardless of any interview. Urban has forgotten more about running a football program than Kraft will ever know. That’s like not signing Michael Jordan because he had a bad tryout.

OBVIOUSLY. o_O , urban is not Penn State material.

In all seriousness, I would not want urban at Penn State. Great coach, lousy person.

Ehh I don’t believe that.

If it were 2011, 💯. It’s not, he’s never shown the ability to win in today’s landscape, and his last coaching job evaporated spectacularly.

If he’s arrogant with all of that happening, imagine having to work with him every day and having to have tough discussions.

I’m quite sure Urban would be able to figure out today’s landscape. Lesser coaches than him have done it. Every coach going right now had to learn the process too.

FWIW Pate said earlier tonight there is a coaches name affiliated with the search that if he gave people 15 guesses they wouldn’t get it right. Said this guy would definitely turn heads and shock people although he doesn’t think it is a good fit.

At the same time, makes you wonder why, in a season with a lot of top 25 jobs open (4?), he hasn’t been hired yet. Least it makes me wonder, but cycle isn’t over yet.

Same but unlikely. The search seems to have turned toward non college coaches at this point which may mean nothing. If someone expresses interest and they are a well-known coach you will entertain that interest. Doesn't mean they are a fit or a take. The names I've seen mentioned is just rumor mill stuff.

Classic BS “I know something you don’t, cause im important and you’re not“. He doesn’t know anything, why would he not mention the name? Pate has no ties to PSU, he works independently, no obligation to withhold any information. It’s because he has none but wants to make you think he does

Do you really believe Pate doesn’t have sources? Think about that. There’s people on here who claim to have insider information. Josh Pate who has interviewed JF multiple times in State College has no sources but WildLion69420 does. Just because he won’t burn a personal contact at your expense doesn’t mean he’s lying.

Yes. When this all started, he was at the top of my list. The fact that UF didn't pounce on him immediately speaks volumes.

Whether he's not interested, or whether ADs are seeing negatives, who knows.

Well another podcaster last night claimed the search had turned to NFL guys. Who knows?

Yet another one claimed that there is some speculation that Kalani Sitake may want to try a bigger job like Bronco Mendenhall did previously.

As for Pate I do believe he is a guy that has as good of sources as anyone in the business.

Not "Dirty Billy" Callahan! That one sent shivers down my spine just thinking about it. Probably no other coach that can take a team to the depths of mediocrity or even abject failure quicker than him.

Then again, there's always Ty Willingham...

Urban Meyer for 10 million per year for as long as he wants to stay.. Hire Hartline as the OC and the next head coach in waiting.

winners win
That's the exact scenario interview that got Urban Legend turned down.

Unless there is an Out of the Box or out of Left Field hire put your money on Terry Smith. Bigtime Doners, admin people as in Bendapudi, Big Name Alums, and the general fan base seems to add up to Terry Smith.

At this point If Kraft wants someone from the outside, he will be between a rock and a hard place. Either way he chooses to go several groups are not going to be happy with him. But if he gives the people groups mentioned what they want and it doesn't work out he has the fallback of it wasn't his fault because he gave them what they clamored for.

On the other hand, no matter what he does the National Media will grind his stones. Why should he care about them because they have always been the enemy of PS. Nothing new there so just do the logical thing.
