New coach

Recently Pat Kraft was seen talking to people who know everything about hiring a new HC for PSU and Pat Fitzgerald is a name to watch depending upon how discussions with Urban go and if Marcus wants a bigger stadium than Notre Dame has with concerns if Hartline may not bring Smith with him. All indication appear to be depending who each contender will retain which existing assistant coaches who have asked should I stay or should I go....smart money is betting on PSU hiring a new coach with ability to coach and speak without implying anything.

Respectfully, I don’t know what any of this means.

😞

Every coaching hire is a risk. I bet LSU and Texas A&M thought they had slam dunk hires in Brian Kelly and Jimbo Fisher, both turned out to be disaster.

the facts are Penn State is way behind half the conference in skill position talent, and development. Hartline’s recruiting and transfer portal additions can close that gap quickly. If he has a good veteran staff around him, he’ll be fine. I would look for him to bring Tyler Bowen back, and possibly Billy Fessler as qb coach. That’s a good start
The problem with hiring Hartline is that he bleeds scarlett and gray and if Day returns back to the NFL (which a few expect) - and Hartline is highly successful at PSU - there's a chance that they could come after Hartline. We need someone who wants to stay here for the long haul

If he does that will mean he was successful at PSU and that’s what we need. You don’t pass on a hire because someone might leave later on. Anyone could leave.

Aside from what he was fired for, he hasn't coached in 3 years and was 4-20 in his final 2 seasons at NU.
You do realize he won the wrongful termination case against NW and was awarded his remaining amount of his contract? Or are you one of those who believes the accusations and never bothers to learn the truth? 4-20 at NW isn't as bad as 4-20 at PSU against like competition.

He didn’t win the case—he settled. And that has nothing to do with the point I was making.

Didn't we lose a QB to them awhile back? That Paul Blake kid?

Why? I believe that is a huge misconception in the coaching world. We need someone that is going to leave this place better than they found it. If they leave, they leave. However, if they are highly successful, then the job will be more attactive.

Youdon't not hire someone in case you think they will leave. You hire someone that you think can lead the program to better things.

Which is also why I don't care about their age. If we get 3-5 years that results in a Natty, then a retirement or move to the NFL or another school....sign me up.

I don't realize that, because he did not win the wrongful termination suit. The OVERWHELMING majority of suits are settled before trial. Close to 95%. Those aren't all "won." Sometimes those settlements are very advantageous to plaintiffs ... other times they're given scraps. Often times, like here, terms of the settlement are not disclosed, so we don't know.

I sincerely hope you’re not advocating for Fitzgerald - that would be going three steps back, even worse than Rhule.

The BoT isn't gonna allow Kraft to hire Fitz because of what happened in 2011 at PSU. We fired a fencing coach for less than what Fitz was accused of

PSU should hire The Pope. Good reputation, plus his ‘Nova connection could help us in hoops.
