That is incorrect. You already saw this with Bourque (Michigan) and Kroucher (Ole Miss). Kritza, Jaxon and Grunk are the only QB on the roster before the portal opens and not a single QB recruit committed (after Huhn bailed). They will have to hunt for a portal guy, depending on who comes in to coach.
Maybe I misunderstood your original point.

Were you saying that future portal recruits or high school recruits will hold Allar against the future regime?

SIAP, another case of we will get nothing and like it . Those Christmas fruitcakes will be piling up on Pat’s doorstep. Uh oh . Speed reading and got burnt on a parody account . Seems like a very likely end result though .

Just now noticing that, NO3... clever. Regardless I'm sure Kiffin kicking the tires on the open jobs will result in him getting millions more from the money tree eventually, it's just a matter of who it will be coming from.
Wife and kids don't want to move which probably isn't unusual in these cases. And since he has recently reconciled with his wife, I don't see him rocking that boat.

If that is the case it is odd we aren't hearing anything on those possible contract extensions, literally nothing.
Contract extensions aren’t something you hear rumors about over the course of a several weeks though. It’s just the school and the coach so if there’s a leak it’s likely the agent leveraging for something. I just think most of the coaches on our list have their own lists. They could be very serious about Penn State but their list might have Penn State lower than staying home with a big raise.

The closer someone gets to signing with us, the more serious those contract extensions talks will get.

Was just thinking the same, not necessarily for just the PSU job.
Unless I missed it, haven’t seen a Kiffin, Brohm, Drink extension yet.

Drink just signed a contract extension in July 2025. It was before all the insanity of the season, so the buyout for him is only $5M from what I can see. In that regard, he is probably one of the most available candidates for PSU or any of the other schools with an opening to hire.

Sorry for being vague. I think that until a new regime is installed and there is proof of concept that they will not mismanage QB development and performance Penn State will be at a disadvantage recruiting top level QB. I don't think that from the day the next coach steps on the campus recruits will instantly flip the page.

Drink is a Spurrier fan and if the UF job is offered I think Drink takes it with the intent of returning UF to its former glory. So, it will depend on whether Kiffin takes the UF job what the chances are for Drink to look north.

I mentioned this weeks ago and I know the prevailing response was "NO WAY," but I have to think Penn State at least calls Dabo. Its gone all sour at Clemson and his reluctance to use the portal is notorious, but just based on what we perceive to be major drivers for Kraft in this search, I don't understand how Dabo isn't getting a call from not only us, but LSU, Florida, Auburn, etc. How many 2 time national champion winning coaches are currently on the market(or even possible to get onto the market)? He took a program that sort of mirrors Penn State starting in the 90's, good...not elite, beat some of the most talented and elite schools on his way to NCs. Look, I'm not advocating for him, he seems destined to stay in the south regardless, but I'm just amazed he has become so toxic that nobody is considering him? He's still relatively young, has been a SUPER successful(anyway you measure it) head coach for years, he would certainly attract attention, recruits, players with him. Let's say, as some believe(I don't) that we are on the tier 3 of the coaching search and struck out on a our tier one guys.....is Dabo riskier than a Hartline or a Chesney?

Yeah, you nailed it.

The extensions that happen between the firing and the hiring will whittle down who is available, who is looking to leave, etc.

I don't think a new coaching staff will be judged by the current staff. The new staff will be judged by their own record or lack thereof.

I do not think Dabo meets the requirements that Kraft indicated in his press conference. Those requirements included the aggressive use of the portal and NIL. Dabo has been very resistant in those areas. While I agree with you that he should get a call, I do not believe he will be contacted.

Well actually there is always leaks on these things especially when said coach is being pursued by a number of other schools. For instance it's fairly well publicized that Lea is struggling to get an extension he asked for. So far for him nothing. These coaches through their agents always jockey for financial positioning pitting one school against another and it's best that it gets leaked. Now if you're talking about normal extensions where a coach isn't looking to leave then I agree with you.

Trace back. Dabo's success was closely tied to his two coordinators that are now head coaches: Venables was his DC (now OU HC) and Tony Elliott was his OC (now UVA HC). Record fell off once they departed.

I think people are misreading the dynamics of the situation. I have been saying all along that coaches and their agents are the ones putting out a lot of the rumors connecting this or that coach to the PSU opening.

Most of the big-name coaches who are being discussed are probably not interested in moving and they and their agents are just using the situation to secure a raise and better contract terms. We have seen that happen already with Cignetti, Rhule, and Kiffin. With all the openings now, you are going to see many more raises and extensions like this before this is over.

The bottom line is teams are not going to let top-shelf candidates go and that's just how this works. The coach has to want to leave and it's a hard sell to convince someone to just pack up and move unless they are unhappy or feel under-valued in terms of pay. The coaches and agents are using this situation to their advantage. They don't want a new job. They just want more money and their employer will give it to them to retain them.
