I agree for the most part. He also has to get credit for bringing the team back after a lot of the players quit. And for also recognizing how to fix our offense when all the other highly paid coaches couldn’t do it.
It would be a different story had Smith gone 6-0 or 5-1. 3-3 isn’t going to bolster the resume enough to interest Kraft.
I guess Franklin and those coaches and admins going with him suggesting commits decommit and even players leave before he was even fired had nothing to do with that.

We got absolutely gutted compared to the other power 4 big boys who are changing coaches. That is a red flag and happened under his watch any way you look at it. No doubt we should have lost some but it was leaking worse than the Titanic.

Really? There are a lot of qualified coaches lining up to be offered/take the job. All this panic for no reason. When we bring in the new HC (possibly next week) things will stabilize and depending what program he comes from, he'll bring a lot of his players and recruits with him. If he doesn't, no problem, we are in the age of NIL and the portal. We'll be just fine.
The primary issue is that those in the NIL department told all of the recruits that they weren’t guaranteed the amount they were told anymore. That scared almost all of them off and then combine that with Franklin relaying that same exact message you can understand why all of them left. I mean, if somebody told you that you were going to get 200 K and then immediately says wow I don’t know if that offer still stands based on the new coaches then you start to look around.

He could have easily said Penn State is a wealthy university with substantial NIL resources and a committed AD You are a high level recruit. No matter who comes as long as your offer isn’t pulled which is highly unlikely, you are going to get paid. Maybe even more.
Either Krafty is running a highly confidential, competent search and the candidate has signed an MOU weeks ago and we’re just waiting for the regular season to conclude, or Krafty is a nitwit and doesn’t know what he’s doing striking out on the field. A lot of names are coming up, and I just wonder if this is being instigated by his people to keep it all confidential until next week to protect the hire. I saw Dabo as well, Sitake and now Brohm are newer ones also. To be honest, all of this leads me to believe it’s definitively not Terry or Chesney. They both could’ve been hired and announced this week already to attempt to bring stability.
I think Chesney could have asked to wait to see how their conference ends up. Would JMU make conference champ game, etc.
