Why would any of them be delayed? Sumrall was announced today. Any sensible coach would want to be announced ASAP to start building momentum
Sumrall made the decision to move forward with it
Hartline, for example, wasn't willing to do that until after the CCG
Kiffin was going to delay things a week as well had they made their CCG which is why Ole Miss tried to force his hand

CBS reporting they are promoting their DC Golding to permanent HC. I guess he isn’t joining Lane in Baton Rouge.
From what I’ve heard, he’s taking the offensive side of the ball and the defensive side of the ball left behind

UF is apparently going to let Sumrall continue coaching at Tulane through the end of their season. Perhaps the candidates on our board do not want to accept another job until their current one ends, their current employers won't allow them to stay once they accept a new job, or PSU has told them in advance we will not allow them to continue at their current job once we hire them. I'm honestly shocked that any program would allow a coach to double dip, that creates opportunity for all sorts of issues and conflicts of interest. If I'm Sumrall I'm talking to everyone at Tulane to identify those to bring to UF as there isn't much Tulane can do to stop it.

Go get Hartline, bring in Chip Kelly as OC and give Knowles another year to see if the defense develops year 2. Hartline’s initial contract will be similar to Franklin’s buyout. If it doesn’t work out after 2-3 years, you can go for the $15m/yr offer then.

That’s fair.

For the record. I’m just having fun with you on Chesney. This drama has worn me down. Just hire him and let’s get started. Unless, Saban, DeBoer, or Meyer are walking through the door, I’ll take the upside with Chesney.
I know you are. I think all of us are tired of the waiting but today's large number of new coaching announcements must get things moving closer for a PSU hire.

Look at this way. Looking around college football with all the openings only one can be considered a HR hire and that would be Kiffin. Now most if not all traffic has been cleared from the runway leaving PS. So, when the announcement is made no matter who it is they may get maximum exposure that day. Not saying that's the holdup but just something to think about.
With all the crap he’s put Ole Miss through. I don’t think he’s a home run. More like a hoe run.

Hard pass on Knowles. After all the expected departures on D you are allowing him another shot to install his 3 year defense to a new set of recruits and transfers? He did well at tOSU because the defense was already loaded with studs. I don't see Kelly coming back to college anytime soon

IMO only he is the first fire that should happen.

"Obviously" I am not Mr. Chesney but I have been suggesting his hiring for several weeks based on his body of work as a HC.
You’ve been his biggest cheerleader on the board. Seems like he has a big potential upside. We’ll see how it works out..

Almost every coach that PS was supposedly interested in is off the board. The field hasn't just narrowed it's all but disappeared which might be an indication of how small Kraft's list actually was. HR hire? I doubt at this point that one by this board's standard is actually doable even if one still exists.

This isn't true--the only one they were "interested" in that is off the board is Elko

Agree. We were lead to believe that the coaching change was to “get over the hump” and beat OSU/Michigan/Oregon, but this has circled into a complete rebuild.

I like Manny, but he doesn’t move the needle as the home run hire we were led to believe PSU was pursuing. He’s a great DC. HC…meh. I’ll gladly eat crow though.

There is only one home run hire left. DeBoer. And he's going to stay at Alabama. I'm sorry to say that I believe Kraft screwed the pooch. Tough situation for him. There was no hope with Franklin. He lost the team and evidently couldn't figure out how to get anything going. I honestly don't think he would have reached 6 - 6.

Saban or Meyer would be a home run as well but they aren’t happening either. We’ll never know if he could have gotten to 6-6. It’s looking like Kraft acted with no plan…and may still not have one.

Given what is standing, I would prefer to see Cheney. He has head coaching experience. Hartline does not

Out of curiosity, if he's willing to leave before the playoff, why wouldn't he leave before the CCG?
Because he accepts that he can't stay until mid-January but leaving before the CCG creates chaos--they'll have almost a month to prepare the playoff without him.

Again, if he hires Hartline next Sunday or Monday then he always had a plan an executed his plan perfectly
Go big with Elko--if not, hire the best recruiter/coordinator in the country

At this point I think it's going to be Chesney. All the chips that have fallen clear the path for him to be the next HC.

I guess Im going to be an outlier here. I'm totally not sweating this hire. I believe there has been a lot of assumed names thrown around with no facts behind interest from either side. I truly feel that the doom and gloom is a knee perk reaction to signing day coming, commits leaving and being pushed against a tight window. I have no issue that Franklin was removed when he was, hell practically everyone demanded it, at least it sounded that way every game day. I think when this drops it will be big enough. If im wrong Im sure you will all let me know! Lol...
