I guess Im going to be an outlier here. I'm totally not sweating this hire. I believe there has been a lot of assumed names thrown around with no facts behind interest from either side. I truly feel that the doom and gloom is a knee perk reaction to signing day coming, commits leaving and being pushed against a tight window. I have no issue that Franklin was removed when he was, hell practically everyone demanded it, at least it sounded that way every game day. I think when this drops it will be big enough. If im wrong Im sure you will all let me know! Lol...
So, who is your “big enough” guy?

Then announce it and get on with it. Give time to finish with JMU, but at least get him announced so PSU can get things in motion.

I agree, however we may be waiting at Chesney's request. JMU still has a Championship Game to play.

Let's face it, this class will not be changed whether the HC is announced tomorrow or next week.

It feels like Kraft botched this whole thing. If we thought this year was hard to watch, wait until next year.

I wouldn't have said that until today. We were never going to announce anyone until today, but its perplexing why we don't have someone in place at this time.

Well, we'd miss signing day by waiting a week. So the few high school recruits that we might be able to salvage once the coach is named likely will not be available next week.

As I've said for weeks, if Elko turned down the job--Hartline would be announced after the CCG. Nothing has changed with that and I think most now accept Elko was our top target. The only "twist" would have been if we could have someone convinced Urban to unretire.
Could Kraft feel pressure, go rouge and start chasing a coach like Riley or Sitake...sure, of course...but the original plan still seems like it's happening to me

Agree 100%. Most of the “big” names never had a real interest. The hire was always going to be made this week or next so the overreactions are both comical and bizarre.

Chesney could be a home run long term hire imo but I would be fine with Hartline or Sitake.

I’m hoping they can keep Koby Howard. He should have been playing more. Like I said, every day this goes without a HC is damage.
I would agree if a new coach is not named within the next few days. Oklahoma State, Florida, LSU and VT all have hired new coaches, and, except for UCLA, those were all of the major jobs that came open around the same time that the PSU job did.

Having someone in place doesn't require an immediate announcement, especially if the next Coach wants to finish something at his current school.
There has to be someone in place. By simple process of elimination it is someone coaching with a team in the playoffs. from that small group it leads you to Chesney or Hartline. I think Kraft has agreed to wait a week and let the coach finish their regular season.

A week at this point is an eternity. The hire has to be announced in the next day or two.

True. The new coach needs ample time to evaluate and re-recruit the current roster also. Players who get frustrated and already have made up their mind that they are transferring when the portal opens may be difficult to change their mind.

Sitake is in that group too--don't think it's him but there's no way that guy would leave his team before the CCG

Stop obsessing about the 2026 class--it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things
What does matter to you in college football? Not the postseason. I believe you agreed with me that after three losses the games are irrelevant if your whole focus is winning a championship. Having players now doesn’t matter either?

Yes, between the class about to sign, keeping players currently on the team and working the portal* - all of that gets worse the longer things go on without announcing. At the very least Kraft needs to communicate and be open with the current players and verbals to keep people on board.

Even if we accept that 2026 is a lost year, you want to at least be competitive and build momentum, not have it be another disaster.

*yeah, technically no portal work is going on now, but let's be real. Not to mention that at the very least there needs to be coordination with NIL plus simply establishing priorities.

Nice hedging…why not just predict every coach and you can say “I got it right!” lol

It will be next Sunday or Monday
A week is nothing
A week is something now considering that tomorrow is December 1st. There’s a reason that Florida and LSU just announced new coaches today. This needs to be announced this week, and preferably within the next day or two.

What’s the difference between tomorrow and next Monday?
Pretty dramatic if you want to try to poach any players for early signing (or at least to keep any from signing and to stay in play for the later period) and to keep any good current players from leaving. The sooner the current team knows who will be coach next year, the easier it is to convince them to stay compared to complete uncertainty.
