I am very optimistic about our future. I am curious about DC. Total silence out there. It makes you wonder if the next hire is currently in the playoffs .They just flipped the DE from NJ that was committed to ISU also.

It’s now official. Huge upgrade for us.
Absolutely, an upgrade. This guy has a track record for putting WRs into the league, even before his time at ISU.
Yeah, I saw that. Most definitely a redshirt guy/scout team 1st year. Needs must more weight/strength to play edge in the B1G.best offer after ISU was Monmouth
I was always more of a one minute man.You could’ve waited another two minutes.![]()
More good news…
I agree with you wholeheartedly. There’s a lot of good in both cultures. I think MC understands this well. It would’ve been easy to just wipe the slate clean and say they stunk and we need to clean out the entire house. But truly, there were coaches, largely our own Letterman, that we’re doing an excellent job and just had a poor leader who lost focus in so many ways.Gotta love that CMC seems to understand the importance of keeping some of the legacy guys, and tying in the two cultures into one. It’s a great decision, not a guy that feels like he must have all of “his guys” that bring steadfast loyalty. It’s refreshing to see that kind of maturity and confidence.

Weren't some of their position groups an issue?Gotta love that CMC seems to understand the importance of keeping some of the legacy guys, and tying in the two cultures into one. Supposedly top 50 edge rusher. The iSU guys are athletic but look like they need at least a year in the weight room . They have their rods and reels baited for bigger catches . I believe they can find talent in the underrated players .best offer after ISU was Monmouth

Remember all these Franklin retreads going to Va Tech should be okay for their program. The expectations are far less and the level of competition is laughable. I can't remember if Hagans was hired at Va Tech. Him and O'Brien were horrific at Penn State but may look okay at Va Tech when losing 3 games is acceptable and your toughest game is Virginia or Georgia Tech or a floundering Clemson. Its part loyalty and familiarity and speed. Most coaches grab some of current staff. It's not just Franklin that does this. Campbell is doing it too. and we applaud it. I think your anti-Franklin bias is creeping in here.
If it doesn't work out then they go outside their initial comfort zone the following year. It's the pattern with coaching changes. We see that elsewhere. It's also the fastest way to put a staff together in the middle of a recruiting season or to quickly prepare for a forthcoming upcoming portal opening to illustrate some sort of stability for recruits to see. Doing time consuming exhaustive searches for lower level assistant coaches when time is of the essence is not the best approach most of the time.
Now you could certainly question the quality of the guys based on previous results. Example - O'Brien looks to be a problem. Hard to argue Howle though. Most felt he was quality and the TE room has delivered the last few years.
It started with retaining Terry and then he probably is relying on Terry to give him the inside skinny on all the assistants. I am not sold on Barnes staying but I guess they see he has potential. Maybe this year was just all effed up by Franklin and Knowles.I agree with you wholeheartedly. There’s a lot of good in both cultures. I think MC understands this well. Rated at 88 and change. No big offers because he is only 210 at 6'6. He will need a couple of years to put on 50+ lbs of good weight.Yeah, I saw that. Most definitely a redshirt guy/scout team 1st year. Needs must more weight/strength to play edge in the B1G.
All the ISU recruits won't be these flashy 90+ rated guys The key is they fit with Campbell's style, have a great work ethic and attitude and ideally develop into nice/big contributors for us.Rated at 88 and change. Did kobe howard regress? We have gone from a wr coach that causes his players to regress up to a coach that develops players for the nfl.
How do you go THAT long?I was always more of a one minute man.
What's your point? Our WR room has been atrocious and Hagans is responsible. He should have been canned last year but we had an incompetent head coach.Did kobe howard regress?
Hagans players were only freshman and Redshirt freshman.
We Also went from recruiting 4 *s to 2*s.
Why did campbell have a losing record to iowa?
Ok Mrs Franklin.Did kobe howard regress?

Howard didn't play while small game james was coach. Pretend this recruiting cycle for Campbell is apples to apples. 1-0.Did kobe howard regress?

That’s a great point. However, talent wins out eventually, especially in the B1G with teams like OSU, Michigan, USC, Washington, etc. Campbell will need to bring in his fair share of those 90+ rated guys if he wants to compete with the big boys in the conference. All the ISU recruits won't be these flashy 90+ rated guys The key is they fit with Campbell's style, have a great work ethic and attitude and ideally develop into nice/big contributors for us.
He will. More to sell here plus more resources. It will come. Unlike BGJ, who could pull 4 star guys all day long, only to regress due to poor coaching and an individual, not team mentality. Tone is set at the top. That’s a great point. Exactly. The problem was Franklin amd his esu offense.Howard didn't play while small game james was coach. Pretend this recruiting cycle for Campbell is apples to apples. 1-0.
You are he dipchits who picked Franklin to win a Natty this year.Ok Mrs Franklin.
That is what happens when the best wr transfers every year. What's your point? Our WR room has been atrocious and Hagans is responsible. He should have been canned last year but we had an incompetent head coach.
Lower star recruits like Indiana , three transfer receivers with a passing game equivalent to a 1975 team.Did kobe howard regress?
Hagans players were only freshman and Redshirt freshman.

Campbell is not cignetti. Campbell was already at a p4 school and he averaged 7-5 over 10 years. He could not pass iowa much less osu.Lower star recruits like Indiana , three transfer receivers with a passing game equivalent to a 1975 team.
Our fans will long for the days of 5 star under performing recruits playing the shell game with ball caps.
JoePa couldn't pass Iowa.Campbell is not cignetti. Campbell was already at a p4 school and he averaged 7-5 over 10 years. He could not pass iowa much less osu.
True. Had losing records vs Iowa, michigan and osu.JoePa couldn't pass Iowa.
I agree. Good football players with proven on-field production trump strict potential based on measurables anytime for me. Having said that I liked the fact the kid was rated in the high 80s when his weight height ratio suggest a developmental player. All the ISU recruits won't be these flashy 90+ rated guys The key is they fit with Campbell's style, have a great work ethic and attitude and ideally develop into nice/big contributors for us.
Yes and no, and I hate to use Indiana again as an example, but with proper scouting and development its not how they are rated coming into the program that is important but how they fit into the culture and evolve (88s become 90+ quickly). That’s a great point. However, talent wins out eventually, especially in the B1G with teams like OSU, Michigan, USC, Washington, etc. Campbell will need to bring in his fair share of those 90+ rated guys if he wants to compete with the big boys in the conference.
I think Campbell is being very judicious in his selection of staff members as his first focus will be to establish his culture at PSU. So, even though he may have more dollars to spend on staff he does not want to be surrounded by people who cannot implement his culture and he will have train both staff and players concurrently. Players are ranked lower than we are normally accustomed to but once again he is back filling a decimated class with players he has already evaluated and can build. The three recruits that have flipped from ISU are all in the 86 to 88 range (except the punter) which is very respectable and if seen developmentally quite good. One major difference between Campbell and others is that he values players who are good at football over players with excellent measurables who are not yet good at football. Once he is established at PSU and gets his bearings I believe he will start bringing in much higher rated players. What is everyone's thoughts at this point with Campbell and his coaching hires? I like the staff so far and liking the recruits he is starting to bring in and hoping he can convince some of the commits that reopened their recruiting to come back to PSU.
There will always be those who ***** and complain about everything. Don't listen to the clowns or join their circus.so people who were complaining that PSU lost their recruiting class are now bitching that the new guys is getting recruits? He doesnt need a class of 5 stars for the 26 class, just 10-15 kids to keep in the program and develop. Seems like retaining the current team, getting some of these underrated 26 recruits in here now and then focusing on the 27 class (now in on LOTS of high level recruits there) and getting some portal guys is the plan. Something that we all knew would happen.
