I suppose we’re back to the drawing board for DC. We truly must not be able to afford the buyout, which makes sense as we’re carrying Franklin (renegotiated, but still significant) and Knowles already. It is concerning that we have not named a DC yet so close to the portal.

So, we are stalking Lynn on social media now and making up scenarios? FFS.

I hope the energy of the young staff transfers over to the potential recruits and current players.

It may take a while, to reset the culture and have people buy in. King Mack's interviews point to a fractured culture where individuals were not all pulling in the same direction. True, false, or a little of both, you need a complete buy in to build a championship level culture. The past regime, for whatever reason, had unintentionally allowed fragmentation and a loss of unifying function. I am hopeful that a complete staff reset will allow a new foundation to be built and team unity reestablished.

I was really hoping for a defensive line coach that could draw some players in before tomorrow. Doesn’t seem like any major defector so far today which is great.

I don’t understand why it takes PSU so much longer to fill positions than any other school. Is it a procedural thing at Penn State that other schools don’t have to deal with? We’ve known Lynn is going to be DC for days and still no official announcement. Still no RB or DL or Lb coach and portal opens tomorrow.

Can’t hurt! I mentioned it because I’m not sure what we are doing with Dan Conner, but perhaps Lynn will pull in his old LB coach.
I would be shocked if Lynn did not retain Conner, but I am also still shocked Barnes turned down a raise at PSU to chase a few more dollars at South Carolina so who the heck knows anymore .

How was the LB play this year after the NC transfer and Rojas? Maybe we should hire the NC LB coach.

Id glady welcome some Hawaiian (samoan polynesia ansectral) type strength training to the DL and maybe even some recruits

Maybe even a pre game Haka routine for the DL boys
Didnt PSU run right over that UW DL in a bowl?

I saw an earlier post - Per Brandon Huffman of @247Sports, Penn State is set to hire former UCLA defensive coordinator Ikaika Malloe as its new defensive line coach & defensive run game coordinator.

@Big-o -------Grandson "Sekrah reporting" 👀
SO......
I wonder if MC & Lynn are still interested in Pannell....do we have an OL coach to date?

First reported by Football Scoop on New Yrs day, Matt Campbell and D'Anton Lynn are currently working to bring former Nittany Lion DeOn'Tae Pannell back to Happy Valley.

Currently the defensive line coach at FCS Austin Peay, Pannell was an analyst on Lynn's UCLA staff in 2023.

He also has coaching experience with the Detroit Lions.

Pannell was a three-year starter on the Penn State offensive line and was a member of the 2008 Big Ten Championship-winning team.

Any rumors on the RB coach? I kind of understand why they have not made a decision on Dan Connor yet given Lynn was only recently made official, but we have had our offensive coordinator announced for several weeks and I would think that by now we would have a running back coach announced.

Maybe or maybe not.

It is tough for players to be on the same page if the staff is NOT on the same page. Tough to pull in the right direction if the staff sends mixed messages. It is tough to work your arse off if the staff keeps making the same dumb mistakes. All we heard from the staff was explosive play BS but they could not run a yard vs 1AA teams. The staff wanted explosive plays but they could not come up with a consistent 1 yd play.

I have seen rumors of DeShawn Foster no idea how valid...

Again? I feel like his name came up after Seider left, no?

Speaking of Seider, does anyone know how close he was with Terry? I certainly got the impression that there was no love lost between him & BGJ. If he and Terry had a good relationship, I wonder if he would come back from Notre Dame. Love is off to the draft and he seemed to have good recruiting ties to the DMV & Florida.

That all started in earnest when Frankin's requested contract extension was shot down twice, once by Kraft and then later last summer by the BOT.

Not enough time to coach two critical positions at this level of football.

Sure hope Connir is retained as the LBer coach.
Dig deeper. This is his history. He has been coaching ball since 2001. He is a very experienced DL coach.

At the same time:

Two years as UCLA DC - UCLA D dropped from top 20 in the nation (I think it was 14th, IIRC), to damn near dead last (something north of 120th).

Aside from having spent a little time w D Lynn, hard to imagine how that would get a guy considered for a blue blood job.

He was not hired to be the DC. He was hired to be the DL coach. Many coaches are far better position coaches than they are coordinators. I suspect Lynn knows what he is capable of.
