Seeing reports the last few days with college teams starting fall practice, that the new baseball's are going a lot further. Kendall Rogers said balls are going "much further" And someone who has watched Arkansas practice said balls were flying out of the park during batting practice. Gonna be interesting to see the impact it has on the college game.

i think they were designed to go 15-20 feet farther from what i remember...i guess its relative based on what one thinks "much further" means, but that seems like a sizable distance more. it wont matter for us...as a matter of fact our bloop special might turn into a routine fly. damn you ncaa.

It's going to be a very big difference. IMO we'll get back almost 2/3 of the offense the game lost with the BBCOR bats. Actually getting back 80%ish on distance -- but since it isn't leaving the bat any "faster" than BBCOR so you can't count on the scorchers getting through the infield any better. The offense across the game is going to be about 2003 levels IMO...

And, yes, we've got power hitters this year. Pretty excited about it really -- and wish Cohen had let a couple of them play/play more last year.

And that is considering that we didn't get summer league stats on Holland, Humphreys, etc who I expect to be power threats as well.

Swinarski had a tough summer. That's the only one that's disappointing. Something else was going on with him this summer -- had to be...

Thats why im not sure its as big
Of a deal. You will add some himers but thats it. You wont get balls thru the infield and balls wont get to the gap any quicker which i think is the biggest problem.
Additionally batters now have to make an effort to get out of the way of pitches which will encourage pitchers to pound the inside half even more

I do know Butchs biggest concern with the new ball is control because the ball moves so much more.

Yes. The ball moves more. Michael roth is quoted in an article about it. Graveman told jim that in an interview. And butch told me that he was concerned about it.

I didn't expect that

I expected that they would have less movement resulting in more hanging curves. I was more worried about them hurting our pitching than helping our batting.
