Just the second LB committed from the last two classes, so it was definitely a high position of need

Solid offer list too. Welcome aboard!

Just another typical 85 - 88 3 star player. He fills a need but we are not progressing worth a 17 in recruiting.

Yep. Looks like a solid player, but we don't have any room for error and the misses really hurt us. Really hope Moorhead figures out how to turn the corner in recruiting.

Remember though, one of the great things about the talent our area produces is a lot of these DE types can also play linebacker or even tight end. K.J. Wright, Gerri Green, etc. and vice versa. Doesn't really apply so much to the guys we have committed in the 2020 class, but still pretty common. I could see a number of the DEs/TEs in the 2018/2019 classes playing a variety of positions.

Exactly the type of players we need. Solid 3 star type with a few P5 offers, from a surrounding state and was overlooked by the big boys. He's the prototypical MSU guy.

Appears we will be in need of LB's since it doesn't appear that the LB's on the roster (Watson, Bruie, Johnson) are going to play very much. Had hopes that Kilby-Lane might play a lot, but I don't think I've seen him play yet, except on special teams.

Y’all go watch his Jr HUDL highlights.
He closes quickly and hits like a tank!
Also, he should be bigger and stronger this fall during his senior season compared to his Jr highlights. Hopefully he’ll stick and ink in Dec.

I feel pretty sure they will play a lot in the future. Like next year. And I seriously doubt there are any 5* linebackers looking for a team to sign with at this point. Pretty sure Bama and LSU and the like have snatched them up

I get a laugh out of people shitting on a player that commits to us and then looks for a negative. Shut the hell up!! If you had a clue about athletes you wouldn’t be on here. It’s sad we have so called fans shitting on players we recruited and then get a commitment.

#22 ILB in the country. Nice pickup.

We do need OLBs though and there are NO 5 stars available, just to end that speculation.

I remember Bernardick McKinney basically getting a negative report on the old BDJ message board. Said they didn’t have a clue why we were offering him. I think he was a 2 star at the time, may have eventually been bumped to a low 3.

I quit following the recruiting services a couple years later when I finally realized those guys just making crap up & have no clue what they are talking about, outside of the very few can’t miss prospects. Granted - a lot has to do with how a kid physically develops from when he’s 17 till when he’s 20 / 21. It’s just a guessing game.

haha exactly...which is why we will forever live in mediocrity unless we get a coach worth a damn

Our issues this year aside from tutorgate is the awful roster management from Dan. He undersigned on the OL and DL for a couple years and signed like 8 TEs. It was a travesty. Couple that with tutorgate and we get what we're seeing this year....and don't forget Joe's coaching deficiencies.

The key to us being competitive is not recruiting 5 star players...it's player development. This kid fits the bill...if we can develop him.

Glad you brought up McKinney because he wasn’t the only overlooked player in that class

Dak Prescott - 3 star
Josh Robinson - 3 star
Bernardrick McKinney - 3 star
Darius Slay - 3 star
Preston Smith - 2 star
Justin Cox - 3 star

This is before even getting into some of the solid O linemen that class produced, and the real kicker? Groce has a significantly higher overall rating than every single player that I listed above.

At the end of the day, whether it’s Joe or whomever at the helm, they’re only going to be able to get so far in the rankings. The key is going to be what they do with untapped talent they find and how they develop it. Mullen’s coaches did a phenomenal job with that. Jury’s still out on Joe....

Well we know nothing good happens in that area until we vastly upgrade our S&G program

I don’t disagree. I’ve been largely unimpressed with player development under Joe’s staff. With the exception of Hill, you’d be hard pressed to find a single player listed in the preseason Who’s ya boy thread that has not regressed or been a disappointment this year
