Sony has just made their Playstation Vue Service available nation wide. It comes in three tiers with the cheapest offering of 55 channels for $30 a month and their most expensive being 100 Channels for $45 a month. Their service is a little different than sling because it does offer a DVR service.

One major drawback for the service is that it is currently only available on a small number of devices. The PS3/PS4; all the amazon fire devices; the Chromecast and the IPad/Iphone.

If you are looking into cord cutting, this might be the service that puts you over the edge.

Nice, I've been wanting to drop Dish. 150 channels and I bet I only watch 15.
Even the basic plan covers most I currently watch.

No History channel on any the tiers though...grrr need my Vikings
Thanks

Just cable with intro pricing forever. This is not really cord cutting. Give me ESPN with nothing else, then we can call it cord cutting.

I have to wait four more months and then I am going to drop DirectTV and start using Sling and some other streaming services. I will be able to cut about 70 a month off the top and then the saving per month after the modem is paid for will be even more.
I would go the Playstation Route, but I can't afford one of those things, and I've never been a big Sony fan. Glad to see others are jumping in the game and making it harder for the cable providers and Dish services though.

You don't need a PlayStation. I'm actually "cutting " chord this week with twc announcement of speed boost for free. $40 for 50 Mbps going to get sling or this.

So it's a playstation\Sony service, but you don't have to have the playstation? Runs off of Roku or one of the other services?

I had SlingTV for college football this fall and it sucked. It hangs when coming back from commercial a lot, I cancelled it after my three months was up. I was running it on a Roku 3, so it wasn't a hardware issue.

It will not work on Roku or Apple TV at this point, but it will work with the Fire TV which is a great little box. They normally sell for $99, but Amazon puts them on sale pretty often. Also, Gamestop normally sells used Playstation 3's for around $100 as well.

I've considered trading in my 360 for a PS3 for this. I've read the interface is terrible for everything but PlayStation by people who have used the free trial.

I saw the list it said it supported other devices. I was looking on phone and my work blocks gaming.

Is it the same as SlingTV where you can only watch 1 TV at a time? If you have a family, that's ********. Single...have at it!

I've went through this song and dance with TWC. If you cut out everything but their internet service, you pay out the ***. When they did the numbers, it was actually cheaper to keep TV service and their 50mb internet than to just have internet.

Something about not getting the "package" discounts... I absolutely hate dealing with TWC, but if they're gonna jack up my speed to 300mb for no extra fee...I really can't complain too much.

In terms of how many devices you can use this on at once, the website actually has conflicting information. Here is basically what they say:

First when you sign up you will register a home address. The account is tied to that address, so if you are using a device that is connected directly to the tv you will only be able to use it at your home address. However, it does say that they also support a mobile app that is currently only available on iOS. (which is weird since Sony makes Android phones). If you have an iPad or iPhone you can watch TV away from your home address. Also, the app is compatible with a Chromecast so you can use that to stream the service to a TV that is away from your home address.

To make things even more confusing, they indicate that you can watch this on up to three devices at once. However, when I started digging in a little further there are all these weird limitations that may, or may not, still exist. It indicates that you can have a stream on one PS4 or one PS3 and one iOS device, but that you can't mix and match. So, you couldn't have Two PS4's and one iOS device at the same time. However, this doesn't mention anything about Fire devices however the next paragraph down indicates that they support Fire TV so it is my guess that this requirement doesn't still exist.

I am going to setup a trial this weekend and I have every supported device except a PS4. I will test it and let you know what I find.

Not having a DVR or local stations will make it hard to not have cable or satellite for me. I record a lot of shows and watch them later.

Get you and HD antenna for your local stations. If you get the right packages you can probably avoid the need for DVR because it's all streamed and can be watched at any time...not counting live content of course.

DVR is lacking with all these streaming options, but get an antenna for locals if you live close enough. My problem is I don't, 60 miles away from the closest broadcast antenna so I'm pretty much stuck with cable or satellite. But that $30 and $35 package they have would be amazing for me otherwise

For you wouldn't it be between $15 and $17.50?

They already raised your fee/bill every single year and will continue to for eternity. They just did an across the board hike in January

False. That's why I hate dealing with them. I have to call them and threaten to cancel, but ultimately they always reduce the rate back down.

Learn anger.

Dec - $174.37
Feb - $164.64

March is gonna be extremely low because I changed up our whole home DVR service. Cut another $40/month.

200 channels...whatever package that is (includes a lot of the sports channels)
4 whole home DVR boxes (only 1 records)
50mb internet...have my own modem and router.

no movie channels

I had the EXACT same experience..... wanted to drop the TV feed and keep the internet... would go up a BUNCH but if I did not change anything they would drop my cost by $20 a month. Sure... just turned the box off.
