ESPN details new streaming service, revamped app ahead of Thursday launch
The network going direct-to-consumer reflects a notable shift in its longtime strategy and a reflection of rapidly evolving consumer habits.

New ESPN app launches tomorrow kiddo. Plug in and you can cancel your TV service. That's free advice for the slow fellas.Still trying to start any thread lol
I appreciate thatNew ESPN app launches tomorrow kiddo. Plug in and you can cancel your TV service. That's free advice for the slow fellas.
Agree. They better have it fixed for the launch because it’s been terrible for years. For me the ESPN app has always been the king of suckage. Hopefully they get that part fixed.
Never had a problem with it. I consume almost all sports via the app.For me the ESPN app has Always been the king of suckage. Hopefully they get that part fixed.
Completely agree. It’s always way too difficult to find a game that you want to watch, there are way too many technical issues, and rather than making ongoing improvements to what they have, it always seems like they like to entirely replace one crappy app with a different version of a crappy app.For me the ESPN app has always been the king of suckage. Hey ! I resemble that remark!Maybe all of you are just old and terrible with technology
Never had technical issues and games are easy to find and I'm almost 60 and not tech proficient at all. I'm on wired fiber, so that may be why no technical issues.Completely agree. They really need someone focused on user interface and experience because they are the literal worst in that department.
Sounds great in theory but id have to change the channel for my wife every time she wanted to watch something else. Trying to explain inputs and HDMI’s , I might as well try to explain quantum physics to her. I put Firesticks on every tv so that each one would have the exact same remote because switching from a LG to a Samsung, to a Vizio was more than she could understand.Over air antenna here I come! Goodbye YoutubeTV! Save that $60+! Now to figure out the best one for BFE.....
On my phone or iPad, it’s a piece of cake, but some of the built in tv apps are terrible.Never had technical issues and games are easy to find and I'm almost 60 and not tech proficient at all. I'm on wired fiber, so that may be why no technical issues.
At most, it’s just an update to the existing ESPN apps on those platforms. Your app may not even need one. Will the app be available on Samsung or Fire TVs?
I cut the cord in 2001...mainly because I was a poor. I used to have to go to bars or a friends house to watch college football games not on broadcast TV. Then I saw an ad for something called a device called Roku on the back of a Netflix DVD in 2008. It's been fun to watch the cable/sat companies slowly dying since then.
Slight thread hijack. For those of you taking advantage of free OTA channels, do you have a DVR solution for them? If so, what do you recommend?
www.tablotv.com
I have 2 antennas on my roof but have never seen the need to record, if I miss something over the air its usually easy enough to find it playing again in a day or two on one of the free apps, YouTube, etc. My neighbor though has a Tablo (not sure which model) and has had it for a couple years that he says does a really good job.Slight thread hijack. I get the ESPN App via Apple TV and/or a Firestick, that's probably why I don't encounter the same problems. On my phone or iPad, it’s a piece of cake, but some of the built in tv apps are terrible.
First, it irritates me that the app on my Samsung tv doesn’t have any sort of memory no matter how I set up my profile and favorite teams, so I’m constantly having to go through 3-4 menus to find an MSU baseball game for example. Then, once I finally get to the college baseball section, I have to scroll through 50+ games at times before I finally get to the one I want.
As far as tech issues, I nearly know the error code by heart, but for whatever reason… live games just won’t play every now and then. You have to completely sign out of all accounts and sometimes even restart the entire TV and sign back in to get it to work.
These things probably vary from app to app though
Are you paying for Hulu or Hulu TV? Hulu TV is a cable/satellite replacement like YouTube TV, which is way more expensive than just Hulu.Question. I pay about $100 a month for Hulu plus Disney plus espn with unlimited screens. How are you guys paying such a small amount for Hulu.
Also, how is the new ESPN app working. I could turn off everything else if not for the wife and kids
There is HULU , and then there is HULU Live.Question. I pay about $100 a month for Hulu plus Disney plus espn with unlimited screens. How are you guys paying such a small amount for Hulu.
