I have a feeling this guy is going to turn into a Camp-superstar this summer. Hopefully he keeps a bit of a low profile.

yeah he definitely looks like he'll be a 4 star to me. Probably be hard to keep him once other teams come on him. He said our play against Bama had a huge part of his decision. That'll put us at 6 commits and 6 4stars? Currently ranked #7

Will go higher higher than #7 if he does indeed end up a 4*. Probably into the top 5 25% of the way through the class.

That said, it's a long way till NSD -- and I'm pretty sure he has never seen MSU in any way. Love that we're getting a little national hype like this though. And we need to continue doing a great job to try to hold onto he and Moton.

He's certainly gotten a fire lit under his *** in the 2015 class it seems. The hype for that class seems to almost be taking on a life of it's own now and is catching the eye of what will probably be quite a few national recruits. Very impressed with how we're doing in that class thusfar. There is some perceived volatility with a few of these recruits -- but it always will be with elite guys. It's still a way better feeling to currently be on the inside looking out instead of the other way around...

Brewster's influence paying off. He told us we had to start getting on guys earlier than Jr/Sr. We've been recruiting this class for 2 years now.

Yes, but we only have 18 commits right now and it's going to be a small class anyway. We'll finish around 25-30. If we can flip Trey Carter(DE), get JT Gray(DB), and Cory Thomas(DE), we'll be on the high end of the rankings. If you care about rankings. It's a nice class no matter where it's ranked. Top 10 is when your recruiting class really has some high profile guys and there's only a few of those.

nothing and if you add up the number of point difference between classes, there's not much.

I've been saying outside the consensus top 150 prospects, it's up to the coaches to find and evaluate prospects and then develop that talent at a high level. There's not enough people running recruiting sites to evaluate players like coaches do. I think some teams do that. I bet about half of our recruits we we're the first school to offer because we evaluated them, while some recruiting site ranks him based off 5-10min of film.

I'll take our coaches over the sites. 247 seems to be most accurate to me with their ratings. We need our coaches to get a few more Chris Jone's and we'll be set.

There is NO discernible difference. I've yet to have one of these "live by recruiting websites" guys answer this. I've posed it to them a number of times. There are never ANY takers. I'll try again, if one wants to bite;

Would *you be satisfied with the, say, 8th (14th nationally, per 247) rated class in the conference? If so, what in the hell is the tangible, real world difference between that and 12th (30th nationally, per 247)?

You're talking about a few five stars, there (again, based on some subjective ranking given by an "expert"). Who's to say that coaching staffs value the same things that these "experts" do. The bottom line is, outside of the top 10 (nationally), the teams in the 11-25 range aren't a whole hell of a lot different.

Not only that, but does anyone really think guys like Yancy and Steve Robertson know their *** from a hole in the ground when it comes to evaluating high school football players? There's a reason the guys who work for recruiting sites are working for the sites and not coaching college football.

This can't be stated enough. I think Steve Robertson provides a valuable service b/c it gives insight we'd otherwise never see. You can say the same for Yancy too. They both are douche bags although Yancy seems to take that to a completely different level.

But I don't value either ones opinion on how much talent or how little talent a prospect has. They both have been dead on before, and they both have been as far off as possible before. They may can spot good high school players, but that usually doesn't have **** to do with how you'll do in college.

Rosebowl isn't that bad at evaluating talent he does host combines and actually goes and films prospects.

Look at the recruiting rankings the last several years, the SEC standings and the Egg Bowl results. That'll tell you how much stars matter.

I sure thought you meant that we had another commit for this year. Kind of a let down, but it is great to be getting our name out there among the younger guys, hopefully it will help out come signing day 2015. That is what 4 straight bowls will do, I guess - maybe 5 by then.

I'd say that it has pretty much everything to do with evaluating talent. If you want to condemn the rankings, fine. But the local people who do the evaluations are not the ones who give the final star rankings.

A kid might have talent but not suited for the scheme that he's playing in, the pot he's smoking, plus about 1,000 other variables.

I'd say knowing what the hell you're doing has everything to do with evaluating talent. And non-coaches are evaluating the talent for the recruiting sites and assigning stars. They're not complete idiots and the stars are do give a very general idea of which recruits are good and which ones aren't. But, like I said earlier, there's a reason these guys are doing what they're doing and not coaching.

Although I agree with what you are saying somewhat I think your explanation hurts your point.

Hypothetical:
For example, if we are ranked 34th nationally in recruiting in year 1 (12th in conference), and then in year two we jump from 34th to 17th nationally (still only 10th in conference), I'd say we made a huge jump in recruiting. We may still be 10th in the conference compared to 12th the year before, but we would have significantly narrowed the gap b/t us and everyone else in the conference.

For that matter, even if our conference rank still remained at 12th, I'd still argue we narrowed the gap b/t us and 1 through 11 in the conference.

What i'm trying to say is that there may or may not be a big difference b/t 8th and 12th in the conference. Many variables to consider. But you most definitely can make a huge improvement in recruiting and it might not show up in the conference rankings.

Currently 9 teams are in the top 16. Well being in the top 16 nationally is pretty dam good, but poor Kentucky is the 9th worst team in recruiting in our conference. Well if we were ranked 18th nationally and (still only good for 10th in the conference), I'd feel a hell of a lot better than I do at 39th.

your sentiment, but I'll never begin to agree with anyone that thinks there is a vast difference between the 12th rated class in the conference compared to the 8th or so. In these subjective rankings compiled by people who have hardly any expertise, there is, but that tells me nothing. There are WAY too many variables that these "experts" don't take into account.

Agreed on the variables, but its the only objective way to compare recruiting. At least it is the only current objective way to measure and compare that I'm aware of.

Let's look at it this way.
2014 currently
kentucky 9th in conference 16th in nation
south carolina 10th in conference and 24th in nation
There probably isn't a whole lot of difference there.

Its very possible, though not likely, that in a given year (say 2015)
kentucky is 9th in conference and 14th in nation
south carolina is 10th in conference and 32nd in nation
The difference b/t 9th and 10th in 2015 is probably much greater than in 2014.

2014, 2015, Kentucky and South Carolina were chosen simply for examples.
