New Football Commitment

They've been fairly accurate (as much as can be inferred right now) with the developmental type players. And let's face it that's what MSU is going to have to do on the whole, take raw players and develop them.

though is that 6'6 300 pounds guys usually aren't ignored by other folks if they are really good. Maybe will turn out to be a similar case as us getting the Clausell OL out of Mobile last year that apparently nobody else went after.

I may be rationalizing but I bet alot of the non-interest comes from playing private school ball and the fact that he didn't play football last year. Who knows. But MSU has always been pretty good at picking out no-name offensive linemen and have them contributing when they become upperclassmen.

but I believe I read that Malone took off from playing football a couple of years to concentrate on basketball, which may explain the lack of interest from other schools.

to a few games this year. Coach Hevesy apparently watched him practice yesterday and offered him on the spot. In light of what Hevesy has been able to do with our OL in less than 2 years, Itrust the man's ability to size up OL potential.

him play. He is new to football but is extremely athletic for his size which shows up in his basketball success. I have heard he is an extremely good student with a high ACT score. Loads of potential with his size, athleticism, and intelligence. He will be a project but has what it takes to be successful.

and believe they were playing JP. He must have thrown to the ground about 15 different times guys that looked like they were 5'10" tall.He was playing right tackle and sealed it off pretty good when guys went to the edge to getaround. Ok, just made myself feel better. 21st commit. Getting full.

All those OL at the end of our class last year either had really good size or were very athletic. Malone seems to fit that same mold. Big guy, seems to have some athleticism for his size. Anybody that is that big with that kind of athleticism I want on our team. With the staff we have, I trust Balis/Hevesy/Mullen with guys like this. </p>

well, since he was a small kid anyway. He wanted to play basketball early on.

He's going to be extremely raw, but the kid has A TON of upside. Some have said he made a 33 on his ACT, but I'm not sure if thats accurate or not. Either way he's a bright kid.

He will redshirt on campus, and probably be another two years getting to where he needs to be. However, he's worth a scholarship offer. The sky is the limit with this kid, but he has a ton of work to do to get there.

He is very smart which is helpful for an OL. He is very raw from not having really played until this year. Extremely athletic. Think basketball player in football player body. So in other words, has everything physically and mentally you look for to work with in an OL.

The two questions will be 1) does he become a weight room warrior to get his strength to the level it will need to be at, and 2) and more importantly, will he have the mean streak and the mindset to get in the trenches and get punched in the mouth and punch back. Only way to find out is throw him in there.

Would rather take this type of project over one that you know going in doesn't really have the physical tools or the intelligence to play OL in the SEC.

I remember looking at the Alcorn roster in the game day program and seeing MRA under the high school column. I thought thatthis had to be a first. It was, but not in the way I was expecting. Kept looking for a white guy. I guess I was profiling.

and Justin is a great kid; very smart and, if he wants to, will be an all SEC lineman. Quick feet for a big man and a great basketball player. Deweese told me before the season that Justin would be a SEC scolly player. This year is his first year to play high school football (he might have played hissophomoreyear, i don't remember), but he has all the tool and it will be up to him to develop them.

But what did he score on the English portion of theACT?

is that he also went to Northwest Rankin before transferring to MRA.

The MAIS is getting more and more black players/students. I saw the cover of the sports section and they had the girls Dandy Dozen, and it was a black girl from Heritage Academy.

LSU's running back, Stevan Ridley went to Trinity Episcopal, I believe, and of course you have Kaleb Barlow at Prep, and before him Corey McGee at JA, and now Malone at MRA. Justin Reed played baseball at Hillcrest Chirstian.

I think it's great.

The kid has all the measurables, but he is going to be a big project from an experience perspective. If you watch his highlight tape, the competition he is up against is laughable. I think I would get bored throwing around 5'9", 190 lb defensive linemen all the time. He is just slinging them around.

single A MPSA for awhile. In the past 5 years or so I have seen more in the AA and AAA schools. I have been to the AA state basketball the last few years and almost all the teams have multiple black players on their teams.

You may want to learn how to spell his name if he coaches at your school.

He told me Tuesday night, he felt uncomfortable at Ole Miss, but really wanted to be a Dawg. Justin played some as a sophomore, didn't play as a junior (basketball), and decided to come back out as a Senior for football, the week before MRA's first game. He had missed a lot of conditioning, but has come a long way quickly.. A lot of us are hoping he can have a dominating game against prep this Friday. Justin has the size, smarts, and the feet to play on Sunday one day! It will be up to him, and only him, if he can reach that goal.
