Good production, but I could do without two separate highlights of Chris Jones displaying unsportsmanlike conduct

If this video doesn't pump

you up, then you are going to have to check your pulse. How someone could ***** about it is beyond me, but I'm sure someone will. There is always a Marty Scorsese in the crowd when it comes to these videos, it seems.

Nah, the salute sealed it. I suppose the refs could have let it go, but there was no reason for him to risk it. It was USA. Help the QB to his feet and tell him you'll be back to see him again later.

...while the initial use of color and lighting borrowed heavily from Fellini, the overall atmosphere created is reminiscent of John Carpenter's early works. Oh, almost forgot; it needed more Creed.

i kinda agree. it was like 2 celebrations in one. if he had done the push down dance, he would have gotten off. if he had done the salute only, he would have gotten off. doing both the push down dance and the salute is what cost him.

I agree. But FTR, I don't think Jones was flagged for "taunting", he was drawing attention to himself as an individual. The "mile high salute" has been considered a penalty in College Football since at least the 2010 Pinstripe Bowl when K-state was flagged for it. I don't really agree with the rule, but the point is why should Jones have even risked it? You can celebrate a little, but don't do something that looks so obviously pre-planned.

It sounded like this comment was part of the USA pregame speech, along with the other quotes. Could that possibly be?

I don't disagree. But how is that different than what TSUN does? Especially since MSU is the only school to have ever been flagged for doing the damn thing.

To go by the rule, they aren't supposed to flag for an 'impromptu' type celebration. That is why the salute was flagged and others is that they are pre-meditated. How in 17 is doing the landshark not this?

It is totally in the referee's discretion. Perhaps the only reason UMiss doesn't get flagged is they haven't had the right refs in their games. Maybe its because the UMiss players don't typically strut around calling attention the themselives, they just throw up the hand signal and go to the sidelines. I don't really know, because I only watch UMiss play in November, or if there are no big games on. I don't care what UMiss gets away with. Jones should not have given the refs a reason to throw a flag. I would have benched him for the rest of the game.

I do not disagree with you. I just disagree with the rules and the flexibility within them. There should be no flexibility and thus no gray area. The same game where Pernell was flagged for doing the damn land shark, they had a player literally do a confederate march for 30 yards down the field. I just have never understood the reason for gray area on this type of thing. If you do not like it, put the rule in and enforce it. Otherwise, it will never be truly 'fair' because it is always up for debate and judgment as to its enforcement.

It certainly pumps me up; problem is, history immediately deflates me.
I just can't get excited for LSU anymore. My children may never see us beat them.

If there's one thing I can't complain about over the last few years it's been our downfield blocking. We've absolutely murdered people while one of our guys is going the distance.

I'm actually glad they called it. I would rather it happen against USA in a game we blow them out than in a game such as this Saturday when a call like this could change the game. Coaches will allude to this during the week and keep it from happening on Sat night.

I still thought it was a bush league call as I saw the same salute later that night on another game after a TD and it wasn't called.

Bad call ...

Hopefully ... Jones got it out of his system; Mullen 'splained how it hurt the team; ALL players got the message. Way glad it happened in the USA game instead of upcoming SEC games.

I'm bumping this for the weekend warriors. I just watched it myself.

1) Good to be able to see Malcolm Johnson's crushing block in slo-mo!

2) On C Jones' celebration penalty. Mullen said he was more angry at him for celebrating for he basically was getting beat and Preston Smith forced the qb into him.
