To quote what one of my friends said, "I dont care if we play in doo doo brown uniforms, I just care about winning the game." Is there anyone else out there that feels like this? I really could care less about what the uniforms look like. I care more about how the people wearing the uniforms are performing and the score on the scoreboard, not if we have all white helmets or not.

The other side of the coin is this- the guys wearing the uniforms play better if they like what they are wearing.

Here's the deal- college football is about tradition. Traditionally, we play better with maroon helmets. The white apparently are only good when it snows.

Here are some of the other problems- our uniforms weren't the right shade of maroon. I imagine that LSU would ***** if their uniforms were lavender. And rightfully so. Secondly, we look cheap. Cheap can be misconstrued as "we don't care".

But exactly, Todd. The Croomiforms of the last five years just looked cheap. If the new true maroon hats and facemasks = badass, then the white ones with the flapping SWAC logo looked the opposite.

Somebody posted a link a few weeks ago about how school uniforms, like it or not, do matter to impressionable high school recruits. If they're from way out of state, the only impression they have of MSU will be seeing them play in televised games. Winning makes a strong impression, yes. Having a strong brand image makes a strong impression. Losing and having a crappy brand makes you radioactive.

Hell, if it logos and marketing didn't matter, why do corporations, NFL teams, and universities spend millions on design consultants to come up with the right "brand" image for their organizations?

Had Croom come in and just kept the freaking maroon helmets (even if he wanted to use the basketball M State), it never would've turned into such a big deal. But it was just another example of how "doing things the right way" meant doing things his way, whether it was right or not. He had contempt for the fans.

Sure, it would be nice to stick with something long enough to establish a tradition. But let's make sure it's something worth preserving. It doesn't mean that it's freaking musical chairs, and we have to arbitrarily freeze in place with the crappy Croomiforms.

For those of you scared to engage in a uni-preference conversation for fear of it making you look ghey, that's freaking ghey. You're compensating for something.
