New hitting coach question

I thought Cohen was in charge of hitting. I realize we had a "hitting coach", but did he really have the ability to override Cohen?
Our hitting this year was god awful.

I think that's pretty much all on Cohen. I can understand if we don't have homerun hitters and whatnot, but our ability
to completely miss the ball, in key situations, was astounding. Our hitting also never improved over the course of the season.

It's one thing to "start slow" and coach-em up, it's different to be bad all the way through.

Any leads on hitting coaches, or is it Cohen?

Make no mistake about it.

If we hire another hitting coach, it will basically be like hiring an assistant to the hitting coach if that makes sense.

Lane was a very good recruiter- that's what we really will be hiring more than anything. He also coached the infield and he also coached third base. That is what we will be replacing from a coaching standpoint.

Your concerns about the hitting last year are legit and understandable- and I'm 100% sure you're not alone on that. However, I think most of the problems last year were due to inexperience and injuries. I think the injuries really hurt the progress of our hitters because all of a sudden they went from a learning situation to a rehab situation in a lot of cases.

Much like the pitching a couple of years ago, the thing to look for is progress. As long as we see that- we should be OK. If not, then changes should be made.

I think there is going to be a big emphasis on hitting this offseason maybe even moreso than usual, and I think the rumored field changes will also help out as well, not to mention having experience and hopefully being healthy.

There were times towards the end of the season where I thought we were beginning to turn the corner, hitting-wise, but then fell flat again.
And I agree, as long as we make progress, I don't mind as much.

So our new coach will probably be an "up and comer" type, with an emphasis on recruiting and some hitting.

Have you found a good way to track our players that are in summer ball? (ie is there one good site somewhere?)

Cheers.

The difference is the good teams have a lot shorter bad hitting streaks.

As far as summer ball- this is blasphemy, but Gene usually goes a good job of keeping track of our summer ball guys. He will have updates from time to time.

USA baseball- for Adam Frazier is pretty good. Then the Cape Cod League has a good website, the San Luis Obispo Blues have four of our players, and the Danville Dans have three. Hunter Renfroe is playing for the Bethesda Big Train.
