Future opponent played last night. Won 48-21 over South Dakota State.

http://www.espn.com/college-football/boxscore?gameId=400869177

I didnt watch the game - but the things that jumped out on the box score were that they ran for nearly 500 yards and got about 6 different guys decent touches. They didn't throw much, but fairly efficienctly when they did, but still for under 200 yards (probably bc they didn't need to throw). And, South Dakota scored 21 points on their defense. I'm not too familiar with how good South Dakota State is, but their ability to score and our ability to stop the run (which i just believe to be true, but haven't seen yet) seems to match up well against this stat sheet.

500 yards rushing against.....is all you need to know about South Dakota State. Kean University would probably do the same to them.

I've been telling people for months we won't necessarily be favored at home against New Mexico it'll be close. We will find out soon. Howard is the only definite win on the schedule this year.

We must respect all of our opponents this year, every game will be a fight, some of them will be fights that we can win and others will be nearly impossible to win.

getting to 6 wins will not be easy at all.

It was actually South Dakota, not South Dakota St.

South Dakota State is a Top 10 FCS team. South Dakota is not.
Your spot on here. Remember how we put up 63 pts. on Norfolk St. we looked like an offensive juggernaut. Same applies to this game. Guys taking this game to mean New Mexico is some type of unstoppable force are just silly. And how the hell someone can tell they have better speed than us from this game is beyond me. Guys we're talking South Dakota here, look up who they play and their record last year. Do a little research.

New Mexico game will be a pick-em.
They have better speed than RU

better speed than us??
our slots (Harris, Janarion, Dacoven) are as fast of a group as you'll find anywhere.
Our RBs have above average speed.
Our linebackers will probably be faster than just about any in the BiG.
Cioffi and Hampton have very good speed.

Why do you think their speed is better?

Because he hasn't seen us play yet. That's why.

South Dakota is a 1AA school. They had a losing record last year. This is pretty much the same as RU playing a bad MEAC team.

UNM can run the ball very well. There's no denying that. Just like playing Navy they take it to you and look to break one. One RB had 159 yards on his 1st 2 carries, 22 on his next 8. You have to play super disciplined defense against them.

I don't know the reason but their starting QB from most of '15, Jordan, didn't play. The QB who did played a lot in '15 and was considered a better passer last year but not nearly as much a running threat.

I have a friend who covers another team in that conference, and that's what he told me.

Bob Davie is an excellent coach and is now in his 4th year at UNM. They have a solid team. Their offense is explosive and fun to watch. We go to 5 Lobo games a year....very enjoyable.

Our speed is pretty good all around...it's like the article from Syracuse in which a fan states.... "we have 20 plus players with 4.5 speed or better"...does anyone understand what 4.5 speed is in the 40...how many guys at the combines run a 4.5 or under ? I'll say this though we will be getting an influx of legit speed in the next several years.

South Dakota lost 41-0 last year to Indiana.

Oh wait. No. That was Indiana State that they lost 41-0 to.

On the other hand, they did beat Drake last year 52-0. (And he's still upset about it.)

Think we beat UNM, but they are a pretty good team. Last year they beat Boise State on road who last year beat.... Washington. Went to a bowl game and lost a close game to Rich Rod's Arizona team so cannot discount them at all.

Not to discount any win but Boise had almost 650 yards of offense in that game but turned the ball over a lot.

New Mexico is NOT a push over, this is a trap game... if Flood was HC.

But, Ash understands that wins will be hard to come by this season, so every game is a must win.

No games can be taken lightly this year until we know what type of team we have. Tomorrows game can very well leave us with more questions than answers.

Yeah, New Mexico lost a close home game to Arizona in a bowl game. Lower tier bowls are often decided by which team is more motivated. UNM had to be very motivated playing a bowl game AT HOME. Different animal coming across the country to play. I know they will be fired up to try and steal a win from a B1G opponent but we will be ready for them.

Wow...we have good speed, yes, but let's not get too crazy with some of these calls. You basically have us as a top 5 teams in the nation, speed-wise, and that just isn't the case.

Look UNM will get their yards on the ground. It's limiting the big plays that becomes so important. You have to play super disciplined defense.

They also seem to like to run, run, run then just when you think run again they throw the deep ball. They don't complete a large percentage but have an eye opening YPC.

Yup. Just like Army and Navy and, let's face it, we struggled against Army last year. Just gotta play tough and disciplined the entire 60 and get the "W."

with 3 rookie LBs this will be a challenge with Davie's heavy run game.
they do have speed.
like our recent Michigan pick up, Davie is good at that; getting kids that get dropped for big name schools and giving them a second chance.
