Looks very nice but they need to stop with the FALSE claims of having the 2nd largest HD Board in college football, that is our claim to fame.

<span class="postbody">Minnesota is 108' x 48' = 5184
MSU (Main Center Board) is 111' x 47' = 5217

Furthermore when you compare Total Scoreboard size of ours you get this.
UT divides the main board into Ads and Stats. MSU has separate HD boards for that. From the MSU Davis-Wade Stadium page..
"When completed, the new board will measure 152 feet wide by 135 feet, 6 inches tall, with a main HD screen 111 feet wide by 47 feet high." (This is now completed)
From a copy of the plans we can get the individual screen sizes to make total Scoreboard Size
http://bulldawgjunction.com/classes/image.php?i=225
</span> <span class="postbody">Main Board = 111' x 47' = 5217
Ribbon - Scoreboard/Stats = 5' x 111' =555
Side Panels - Ads/Stats = 10' x 47' = 470
Total Scoreboard Screen Area = 6242 square feet
</span>
<span class="postbody">Texas (Godzillatron) 134' x 55' = 7370</span>

Still not close to godzillatron but thats a lot of Damn Square footage of screens

<span class="postbody">
*edit* I know noone cares , but the Side Panels I had labeled as 15' x 47', was incorrect, and they are only 10' x 47', and the whole space from side to main screen was 15'. Apologies for reading the plans wrong. Texas is still bigger by a full 1,128 square feet.</span><span class="gensmall">
</span>

Anyways..back on point.
Check out Minnesota's new digs....

Yes, the scoreboard and field are off-center. This was done on purpose so there is a view of the Minneoplis skyline. This is also
the reason the stadium was built in a East- West orientation..
The stadium's field is oriented in an east-west configuration, the only football stadium in the Big Ten to be laid out this. Fans will understand this orientation come gameday, with the sweeping views of both campus as well as the glimmering Minneapolis skyline through the structure's magnificently open west end.
Will hold a little over 50k

I understand stadiums take on different shapes over the decades, but to plan one from the get-go that's off kilter?

Contrast pics 3 and 4. The gap is apparently for the view which I think is pretty stupid. People aren't there to get a view of campus or the city.

Still looks good though, I think. I guess being asymmetrical is the "in" thing these days, probably started by the new wave of "retro" pro baseball stadiums in the past decade or so.

I had seen a video tour of the luxury stuff and its really nice.

I like that they took a different approach and also like that they worked in the skyline. Really cool.

The sun's going to be high in the sky and to the south. So an east-west orientation might actually be slightly better than a north-south orientation.

They got out of the dome and I look forward to seeing alot of snow games.
My brother in law is a Freshman Golden Gopher and he told me student tickets are 180$.

Ohio State students pay $30 per ticket, Michigan pays $26+, Penn State students pay $31, Indiana pays $30, and even Northwestern students pay $16.25.

Any State student that complained about their ticket prices going up doesn't realize just how good of a deal they have.

Godzillatron uses over half of their screen for ads (MSU has separate screens for ads), so the video board in Davis Wade is actually bigger than Godzillatron in total area used for gameplay. http://www.dailytexanonline.com/2.4489/new-screen-s-ad-coverage-disappoints-some-students-1.966251

Heh, DesotoCountyDawg, that made me laugh a little. Would I (as a student) rather pay $70 for a season ticket to see a perenially 3-8 team or would I rather pay $200 a season to see a national title contender? Now, I buy club level seats to see that 3-8 team, but still, "how good we have it" just made me chuckle.

It was seriously built like that so that the city backdrop could be seen.

On another note it must be nice to have state that will finance nearly HALF the new stadium at a price tag of $288.5 million, the state coughed up $137.2 million

with the support in our fair state split so many ways. (Unless the Minn. State Screaming Eagles bitched about it.)

If our founding fathers had actually been trying to think of ways to screw future generations in football success, they couldn't have done a better job than they did.

at MSU - totally tear down Scott Field and rebuild from scratch for a stadium exactly like this, would you take it? I would - so I certainly wouldn't complain about this stadium. Just sayin... Plus, it probably has bathrooms that were designed since the invention of indoor plumbing (not sure we can say the same for the wall/trough design at Scott Field).

Also, if said alum came along with this proposal, would you be willing to drive to Jackson for "home" games for 1 or 2 years???

as long as it was symmetrical. There is no skyline in Starkville- at least not would I would call a skyline.

No for the second part. I would advocate still playing at Scott Field while construction is going on as opposed to playing in Jackson. They could do like the baseball Cardinals- build one side and then build the other when the season was over.

Hell,

Lets just update the crappers, the west side facade, put the lights ON TOP of the East side, and chairback the west side. Connect the East and west sides on the North Endzone, complete with suites and foundation for upper deck expansion (if EVER needed).

as opposed to someone footing a 220 million+ bill for a new stadium? I would hope we WOULD (this WAS hypothetical, wasn't it?) use the rest of the money for scholarship endowment.

If you paid for a new stadium would you want your name on it? I wouldn't. I think a stadium name ought to mean something. I'd bet a small minority of State fans know the people behind the following names: Davis Wade, Scott, Dudy Noble, DeMent, etc... Sure the name is a living memorial to the giver. But I say this memorial is pointless if the name still fails to convey anything meaningful about the giver.

Bulldog Stadium has a better ring to it. But...to throw a middle finger at the constant confusion between our school and the one to the north, I'd vote for Mississippi State Stadium.

I would take this all day over our ********. I mean, I love our stadium to death but it is terrible compared to this. I don't care if we oriented our stadium to line up with the big dipper, id take this all day.

the vid board is off center???...oh damn. F that, if that means a new stadium than id be all for it. Its friggin off a few degrees, i can still see the interceptions and missed blocks when its off center.

They have a great thing going up there. Moving outta the Dome will help the atmosphere a TON! And yes, having great views of both the city skyline and campus is worthwhile. Great views is part of gameday atmosphere for some.
