New MSU baseball commitment

Jaron Shepherd committed tonight. He's a JUCO kid out of Texas. He was drafted in the 17th round of this past MLB draft. He expects to play one year at
MSU, then go pro. Plus, he's African-American. That's something we haven't had in a while. I don't mean that being racist. I think it's a great thing for our program and this guy is supposed to be a stud.

i haven't kept up very closely but it seems that there have been a lot of posts about guys being signed for the baseball team. anyone know how close we are to being out of room? (meaning scholarships, etc.)

and I think we have 11 seniors, and we'll likely lose C. Powers and Bowen so that's 13 slots. Im sure a few other slots will open up...or Cohen will open them up. You have to also consider that this guy could still go pro after this season and never see campus.

but I'm more impressed that we beat out Texas for this guy. I think he's from Texas.

I think he wants to go pro in the next draft, but with the way MLB and the draft is nowadays, we stand a much better chance of getting a guy like this than 10 years ago.

Polk did recruit a few African-American players in his 25 years at MSU, but you could count them on one hand and most of them were in the first half of his tenure at MSU.

he doesn't have a picture on his scout profile page, but I think bulldawg junction had a pic of him. That would make two black kids in one class. Nice work Cohen.
