Question for the board. If you want a new offense, what style would you run, and why. What offensive coordinator out there would you go for? Be realistic. We are not getting the USC or Florida OC.

I want to run the triple option or something so different that defenses won't have as much practice against it. Thats an easy advantage we could use. We need to accept we are not going to have an NFL caliber quarterback and find a system that doesn't require it. That interception that was thrown by carroll is a prime example of why the west coast is not going to work at Mississppi State. Any other highly rated QB would have hit him for the easy TD and the game is over.

seriously. Someone like him would be perfect. We can get good enough athletes to be able to run that effectively, especially in Mississippi. We won't have to pass the ball, that's a big plus.

1. Tech Tech ?- these guys seem to put up wicked numbers each year yet seem to have no Defense to make a challenge in the upper level of their conference.

2. Oregon ?- similar to Texas Tech. these guys put of some outstanding numbers year in and year out but lack Defensive quality.

3. Troy ?- it seems these guys are getting better each year Offensively.

Too lazy to look any of these guys up on Google, sorry.

I don't think Houston Nutt's offense has ever had a name, but it works.

If you have a QB that can fling it all over the field, then you fling it all over the field. If you have 5 good running backs, then you put them on the field and run keepers and options and whatever else the hell you want.

I just want a coach that will use the talent on the roster to its maximum potential. That shouldn't be too much to ask.

Not offensive coordinators but some head coaching candidates who run efficient offenses should are Skip Holtz, Bronco Mendenhall, Chris Peterson, Brian Kelly, Turner Gill, Whittingham at Utah, and Hudspeth at North Alabama. Any of them could run a better program than this ******** we see now.

Lane Kiffin will be out of a job soon. And I'm pretty sure John L. Smith isn't doing much these days.

I look at it like this... in Mississippi, the overwhelming favorite offense is the option. Usually the veer, but there is also some prostyle offenses with option tossed in a bit. If we are recruiting from Mississippi, shouldn't we run just a more advanced version of the offense that all of the players already know? Just think, Pegues was an outstanding option quarterback in high school, he could have been our Pat White (although Pat White could have been our Pat White). At least we don't have to reteach the basics. I do wonder if we could get the Tulsa head coach though.

I think this is a non-issue. When McCorvey is gone at the end of the season, no self respecting (see: good) OC will want to work for a lame duck head coach and carry a one year contract. This reeks of Dan Werner and Ed Orgeron last year. And I'm not debating whether Werner was good or not, but just giving an example. That said, Rocky Felker...step on up.

They might actually be able to assemble something like a consistent(ly good) offense here.

Its easy when you can recruit. But we cant. Carroll isnt a SEC quarterback, Snead IS, Todd is, they are big, strong, athletic, we dont have the wideouts either.

I have mentioned this before:

A blend between a pro-style west coast type of offense and the Texas Tech version of the spread. I think you get the best of both worlds by doing this. You run enough pro-style stuff so that you can run when you need to and be physical and run the clock out and at the same time the spread stuff is very conducive in a hurry up situation. Croom could get a good, functional QB if he would just go out to California and get one of their leftovers. That's on him. I don't like the option because you put your QB at risk of getting injured moreso than the other offenses - I'm scarred by Sleepy Robinson's injury against UF, and if you get behind it's a little bit harder to come back when you have to pass. I want a balanced offense so that we can do what we need to do when the situation arises.

If I had to hire an OC, I would probably go with Chris Hatcher. He doesn't fit my description above, but that's OK, I think he would do a great job, and actually he's my choice to replace Croom as HC.

I really don't care what we run as long as it works. I don't think the problem is scheme as much as it is whoever is running it- Croom or McCorvey.

Problem is, it may not matter who we hire because Croom isn't going to want to give up play calling responsibilities and I don't know any other way to enfore this other than firing him.
