I captured one of those in the woods when I was a kid and kept it as a pet in an old chicken wire hutch until it 'escaped.' (You don't think my parents would have...no, they couldn't have...) What kind of a dumb-*** nerd was I? But the damn thing was entertaining. It behaved exactly as advertised.

I already know man those things are hilarious. I had an old biology professor that would pull it out during the start of freshman classes. Kids would kill themselves getting away from that thing only to turn around and this damn snake is rolled over playing possum scared to death. Haha.

Got his point across though. One of those snake lovers.

Hog noses are mildly venomous. They are back fanged however. There are documented allergic reactions.

Ran into one in the woods once that hissed as loud as an air compressor.

They have some sort of stink mechanism that secretes a dead smell.I thought they were non venomous. Oh well.

Yea they puff that chest and hiss like crazy. Haha. Ends up just bein a little ***** snake.

"No Swimming" is a sign you post next to a decorative fountain.

"EXTREME CAUTION: DANGEROUS ALLIGATORS. DO NOT APPROACH WATER." is a sign you post if you've got a lake full of gators right next to the beach belonging to a luxury hotel.

And in this case, I wouldn't conider it "swimming" anyway. I wouldn't call walking the edge of a perceived beach front Disney had set up as swimming. A 2 year old kid, splashing around in the sand on the edge of the water.

This law suit won't work if I'm dead.

Will for your next of kin. Relatedly, I have some documents for you to sign...

Damn Canadians and their geese!

They're terrible birds. Lived in Rochester, MN, and the lake in town didn't freeze in the winter due to the power plant water, so the place was thick with Canadian Geese. Like traffic stopping, hide your kids, hide your dogs thick. And they're mean suckers, too, biting and hissing. Now I live near the Hudson (NYC) and they're everywhere in the spring and summer having chicks, so they're even meaner/hissier than usual. My dog is little, so she occasionally likes to disguise her scent (lavender dog shampoo, frankly) by rolling in goose poop (and deer piss - luckily few dear nearby).

The only real tragedy about this Disney thing isn't their lack of competence, but rather, how the f*** can Disney charge you $110 a ticket and not sell beer at Magic Kingdom.

I live here. This isn't the first kid eaten by an alligator since I've been in Florida. However, I have spent about $1000 at Disney sinnce I've been here sans alcohol, and I'm pissed.

No alcohol---------) Eaten kid. Sorry.

Gators in Fla are in about every lake, pond or river. Easier said than done to remediate them needless to say. It's a horror story having your child attacked and dragged away. Disney folks should have had shorelines posted better. The snowbirds that visit there don't have a clue how gators are pretty much everywhere and love small critters that now includes 2 yr olds unfortunately.
I grew up an hour south of orlando. Around almost every body of fresh water, alligator grunts were audible virtually every night. Do you think we (and thousands of other floridians) were basically avoiding all of these bodies of water?

Terrible situation. I'm not sure I would survive the guilt. surprised it doesn't happen more often.

Legally, Disney is going to wish they had posted something more strict than "no swimming"

Yeah, I know how that f****** place works. You gotta get a reservation there. They just won't let you in to get a beer. Unless they changed that since last year. I haven't been there in a year (now a Universal member).

Disney starts popping kegs in Never Never Land and by Space Mountain, and mf'er I guarantee you I'll become a member regardless of the money.

I like the weed smoking section Magic Kingdom has over by that mine cart ride.

Just a horrific situation and my heart goes out to the family. That said, it's 9 PM.....and you absolutely, positively DO NOT let a 2 year old play in the water at the edge of a lake, no matter if it's in Florida or anywhere. About the only water my daughter played in when she was 2 years old was in the kiddie pool with one of us with her, or at the beach in ankle deep water with one of us right beside her.

Don't even get me f**** started about Epcot. I want it to be my favorite, but it's time they add some **** in that place. Captain EO? People mover? So much wasted space. And get this. The foreign section where they do the different cultures they took out the best effing ride there. The Viking water ride. Yeah, you still get Speedy Gonzalez stereotyped in Aztec Mexico, but that ride sucks compared to the Viking one.

Just pissed.

Breaking point no doubt daddyo! True story here, back in 1974 iirc a friend from Lexington came down and a group of us went to Dizney as it was a new and big deal. Upon entering they turned my friend away cuz she had no bra on and could see a little nipple. No joke and she was pissed, went back to car and got a windbreaker to burn up in. Different days then I reckon

Yea that's what me and my live in keep talking about. I've got a 2 year old son. I read he was in a foot of water by himself. What the hell, he's TWO. It's a LAKE. 9pm in a foot of water? Only one in the water? I keep having trouble justifying that.

That said I hope it ends in a huge settlement for them. Disney makes a fortune off of these types of people and it's not like they go out of their way to inform families of that type of danger. Dead baby's a big price tag.

Might have been literally next to him, but it doesn't matter. At 9 PM in Florida, it's dark. We were in Florida in March. Came in off the beach and went to use the water hose to wash the sand off. Reached for the spigot and saw some sort of snake about 2 feet long slither quickly away into the bushes. That was at 3:30 in the afternoon. We were in Florida last week, getting home this past Sunday. While walking on the beach, we saw some sort of bug struggling at the edge of the surf. He had gotten himself flipped over on his back. That sumbitch looked to be 4-5 inches long and looked like he could put a hurting on you with some nasty looking pincers. A couple of years ago, I was fishing from the bank in Mosquito Lagoon. Saw something out of the corner of my eye slowly coming up the bank towards me. It was a GD Bobcat about the size of a medium sized dog. He stopped about 40 yards or so away. After a little staring contest, he went off into the brush. We love Florida, and intend to retire there in a couple of years, but my point is that there are a lot of nasty creatures there and you need to really be alert to them. Especially when it's dark.

HaHa, well looking back the guys were looking and it was a lady that took offense and mandated cover. She was a total biotch!

and especially with our little ones. Watch out for the water moccasins down there too, they will pursue you when evading them sometimes. Happened to me once when fishing on the Withlacoochie River north of Tampa.

It's okay to call her ***** Tex. This is a safe place.

If that broad had two babies hanging off tht thang, she'd would've been given front seats on every ride. Disney loves breast feeding.

I mean, you and I wouldn't do it but I'm sympathetic because we all know what it's like as a parent to make a mistake. It just sucks that his was the worst of all and they will have to carry this for the rest of their lives. I'm sure that dad will never forgive himself and will have nightmares about his inability to grab his son.

Stuff like this bothers me more than the other sensationalized stories simply because it's a kid.

Some tragedies hit you on an abstract, I'm glad it wasn't me level. Some just punch you right in the gut. This is one of those.

People say "I cannot imagine," but I think they're lying. As a parent of a 2 year old, I can't STOP imagining. The proper biological and psychological response would be to just walk into a corner, curl up in s fetal position and die.

That, or kill every alligator I see and make a tuxedo out of their teeth.

Hey Jockstrap. What if the dad was out burning marijuana and letting his kid ramble on to risk? What if he was smoking weed and had already been drinking. Is it fair to test the dad?

Gators can be in any body of water in Florida, even brackish water where it changes from fresh to salt water. If the tourists realized just how many big sharks there are in close proximity to the beaches at times, they'd never go in the ocean. The tarpon migration up the west coast takes place in May and June. Big hammerheads, bull sharks, and tiger sharks follow that migration. 8 to 12 foot sharks are common. The tarpon often cruise just outside the second and bar off the beach which is not that far. I know...I have fished the area many times.

Bingo.

Florida is awesome. It's like American nature at a huge diversity. Just so much different kinds of life and threat here. Look folks, this place is a freak show. California use to be. But Florida is per capita, is the biggest freak show in America. There is a reason why "Florida Man" exists.

And I love it! I love Kentucky, but I will never move back from Florida. This place is paradise.

For some reason, I read this and broke out into cold, nervous sweats like this was a final jeopardy question.
Then I was confused, but I'm confused about everything lately because I've gotten approximately 10 hours of sleep over the last week since m my daughter was born.
But nah, no test. Dudes already lost enough. In fact, just give him a lifetime pass to the nearest medical marijuana clinic.

Sorry man.

Just wondering if the dad's sobriety could be at risk to Disney Lawyers.

I mean, 9 p.m at night. Hmmm. I dunno. Sounds like a joint or cig break to me. I think Disney could be able to test the dad. Is it reasonable?
