I bet they pay and they pay big and then bury the story as quickly as possible. Worst thing for Disney would be to have the words alligator, resort, and toddler dead strung out on every headline for months.

Like I said earlier

Disney's Discovery Island has been shut down and abandoned

Disney may as well back up the truck for this family. Reports say there were signs posted to not get in the water. But any reasonable person would believe thats a warning regarding swimming; not being eaten.

No way a corporation of that size doesnt have a duty to monitor their grounds for such wildlife; especially on a portion where its built as a beach. Inexcusable.

Really, I mean do you take "do not enter the water" signs to mean there is something different about this water that would be different from all other bodies of water in the world and only this water you can't swim in?

Hey, off topic but why do Willy, Jason and Mav all have Jared/Subway avatars? Did that guy get banana fingers in prison this week?

Yeah. I assume Disney suits have been hunkered in a room somewhere trying to come up with a value for this. Plenty of shoulda woulda could've on this.

I stayed at a Disney property a few years ago. There was a lake with a beach area & maybe a place to rent paddle boats, etc... I never really considered gators.

This th one with murder bacteria?

Geez man. Florida has to give Australia a run for its money as the recipient of the Place with the Most Wildlife That Can Kill You award.

But they gotz Hsrry potter and the legoZ.
Yep. That's the one. I wanna open it back up. Bacteria, gators, bull sharks. useless manatees, bring it all on. That Island is a money maker. I know this is cold. But a couple of deaths shouldn't ruin the parade for everyone else who wants to go there. Technically, we could be snorting cocaine during negotiations. Just saying man.

That could be a real life fantasy island type of place. Maybe you get to go there to hunt death row criminals or something.

I think it said no swimming, which is a common warning. No warning about quasi dinosaurs eating your child

Are you serious? Who was it so we can shame that person?

Dunno.

Man, I always get messages from mods. Mods are great here. Just some posters here are uptight.

I wanna sue the posters here for taking away my "safe space". I have to mind my P's and Q's all day at work and this site is the only place that allows me to release to talk about clone rape or space titties.

Heisman. seriously. You throw me some good ol' space titties, I'd be perfectly happy on Mars. And I'd shut up.

A monorail accident occurred at Disney World during late 1980, if memory serves me correct. Couple tourists were badly injured. WDW kept the incident and resulting publicity fairly well under control.

As far as the warning sign, the kid wasn't swimming was he?

Also, to me there is a giant difference between a sign that says "no swimming" and "alligator zone, don't get near the water"

And in this case, I wouldn't conider it "swimming" anyway. I wouldn't call walking the edge of a perceived beach front Disney had set up as swimming. A 2 year old kid, splashing around in the sand on the edge of the water.

Yeah, he wasn't swimming. He was playing in the sand on the beach. Went to the water to fill his bucket up.

People who criticize the parents in this situation are either ignorant, or deplorable human beings, or both.

Love all the Disney soldiers taking up for Mickey and the gang. A family member actually tried to compare this to a resort on the ocean and shark attacks.

I can't believe I actually had to explain that no resort, company or organization owns the ocean..

It's Florida. There are gators everywhere. I don't blame the parents and I don't blame Disney. Sometimes, awful things happen.

Taking responsibility away from the parents is insane to me. If they had gone to the south side of Chicago and been shot walking down the street would we say "sometimes bad things happen"? Situational awareness, know your surroundings and plan accordingly. It's not that hard to use your brain...for most.

Possibly the worst take I've ever read.

Disney is going to get smacked in the mouth by this and rightfully so. Here's an article of a family that was actually chased by an alligator ONE WEEK prior in the same location.

https://www.google.com/amp/insider.foxnews.com/amp/article/49769#

Same time of night and the family appears to have been 40 feet from the water. There are no lights around the water at night. There are no signs pointing to dangerous alligators being present.

I wouldn't have allowed my two year old to be in lake water at 9at night no matter how close he was to me. But Disney has tons of blame here.

I'd read a couple of things (not sure if it's true), that they had movie night on the beach that night. Regardless, if Disney is holding movie nights and fireworks on the beach, inviting guests out, I'd say they have a certain amount of responsibility to ensure safety. Which could also very well be the reason they were out on the beach at that time. If you are a guest, you typically put your confidence in the resort that they've made a safe environment as they've created that environment of safety. Just by putting a "no swimming" sign, doesn't do this. It doesn't matter if someone is 1 foot in or out of the water, a gator doesn't get that memo.

Looks like they released a video of the gator and the kid. As the father of three, I'm not watching it. But if someone does, did the dad attempt to go after the gator?

Id be curious as to the video as well but no way will I watch it.. Unless the kid is legit swimming in the water and it's some murky everglades-ish water (and not a beach).. Disney is to blame.

Same here. I will not watch that. I could watch most things but will not watch that under any circumstances.

Disney had to have talked about this prior to the incident.

"Well, Jerry. What have you come up with?"

"Sir?"

"About our reptile issue?"

"Well, ahem, we all know the risks of this area and I believe it's our responsibility to educate our patrons of said risks."

"That's it then. Put up some small 'No Swimming' signs. Don't want to scare anyone unnecessarily."
