I'll be down, and intend on having a grand of a time. Honestly, our side of the bracket is about as favorable for us to reach the finals as we could hope for. Vandy will be tough to beat again, but I want us to rise to the challenge; there are few things in this world (at least during basketball season, that is) that I love seeing more than watching a look of utter disappointment cross the faces of John Jenkins and Jeffrey Taylor. We are playing team ball at the right time of the year, and if we keep it up, look out.

For those of you who like a great burger; go try Yo Mammas, it's right off of Bourbon, across from the side entrance from Pat O's. Get the Romanoff burger, it's got sour cream and caviar; delicious!

many many times. great po boys. Pain in the *** since they only take cash and it can take a long time to get your food. Their shrimp po boy is my favorite. Best Roast Beef was parasols, which has now moved and is called Tracy's (i think). The family had to sell the parasols name and move, but the new location (tracy's) has the old parasols food. Best oyster is probably a combined shrimp/oyster and that is Cooter Browns Radiator special. Another NOLA landmark is Liuzzas (at the Track - Fairgrounds) bbq shrimp poboy. Better eat it with one hand to save at least one thumb from scalding hot bbq juice. They also serve Abita beer in huge goblets. My favorite po boy though is the Roasted Duck po boy at Crabby Jacks on Jefferson Hwy. Hard to eat a "whole". <div>
</div><div>For those tourists, Mothers is overpriced, especially for poboys but their "debris grits" are amazing for breakfast, otherwise not worth the wait. If you are going to stay downtown and not venture out, then I recommend Acme for raw oysters, Dragos at the Hilton for charbroiled bbq oysters. Port of Call is a must for a monsoon/burger. Plan to wait.</div><div>
</div><div>If you have a morning to kill, hop on the street car and go to Camellia Grill on Carrolton and get a Chef's Special omelette (sp?). You won't need lunch. </div><div>
</div><div>For the more epicurean crowd, head to Muriels on Jackson Sqaure. 35$ pre fixe menu for dinner and a reasonable Sunday brunch. I am partial to the goat cheese crepes and pecan crusted drum. Their roasted duck/andouille gumbo is divine. If you are really looking to spend go to August or Galatoire's.</div><div>
</div><div>I can go on all day, if anyone has questions PM me.</div>

The turtle soup at Commanders Palace, the Romanoff burger at Yo Mammas, chickpea curry at Nirvana, the fried shrimp po-boy at Coops, raw oysters at Felix's, and the fried chicken at Fiorella's....and a mojito from Pat-O's....

These are a few of my favorite things (in a Julie Andrews voice...).

<div>General thoughts on food, etc...</div><div>(some have already been discussed)</div><div><div>
</div><div>- As far as burgers go, Yo Mama's does have Port of Call beat, in my opinion. But the Monsoon (at Port) is the best "let's get drunk in a hurry" drink in the Quarter. Company Burger and Cowbell are my favorite burger joints in town as of late, but those places are off the beaten tourist path.</div><div>
</div><div>- Crabby Jack's Duck Po-boy is my favorite sandwich in the city (it's lunch only)... but sometimes their kitchen has an off-day. It's a couple of miles from downtown though.</div><div>
</div><div>- I know most State fans can get good BBQ elsewhere, butThe Joint(if you can find it in the Bywater) hasthe best ribs I've ever had. Damn good brisket, too. They just moved to a nice, new location so double check Google Maps. They've been on the Food Network and have made numerous national Top 10 lists. Baked beans are a must have side.</div><div>
</div><div>- Cochon Butcher is one of the best quick bites in the city. Get the mac 'n cheese with whatever sandwich you feel like having... they're all delicious. Donald Link is my favorite chef in the city. He cooks pork like few others and has three restaurants (Cochon, Cochon Butcher, and Herbsaint) worth checking out.</div><div>
</div><div>- John Besh is obviously a culinary machine, too. Anything he does is great... just opened up a new place in the Hyatt next to the Arena.</div><div>
</div><div>- Parkway has the best shrimp po-boy in town. There are a lot of places that make a great roast beef. Tracey's is probably my favorite for now.</div><div>
</div><div>- Mother's is all hype.</div><div>
</div><div>- Best meal I've had in recent memory was at Rue 127 on Carrollton just off Canal in Mid-City. Get the oxtail appetizer, any entree, and fried cupcakes for dessert. Money.</div><div>
</div><div>- Camellia Grill ain't worth a **** anymore. It's a glorified Waffle House. Honestly, the IHOP on Canal is one of the best IHOPs in America. Clean, courteous, tasty. Pains me to say it, but you're better off there.</div><div>
</div><div>- Archie just opened up a new place near Harrah's called Manning's, if any of y'all are feeling lucky. It's supposed to be a decent sports bar/restaurant.</div><div>
</div><div>- GO TO FRENCHMEN STREET IF YOU WANT LIVE MUSIC. Go to d.b.a. if you want great live music and mind-blowing alcohol options.</div><div>
</div><div>- If you want to drink for next to nothing, take a cab to Ms. Mae's. Cash only. $2 wells all day.</div><div>
</div></div><div>- Check out the SEC Fanfare at Champion's Square. Should be pretty cool.</div>

And you can almost throw a dart at a list of restaurants and find great food in this city. Every area has numerous types of food for any wallet, depending on where you are staying.

Glad we play last game so I don't have to take off work.

FYI. Loyola Ave (Southeast side of Dome and arena) is currently under construction as they are installing trolley rails. Traffic through there can get nasty at times. Best routes into area will be Claiborne, Poydras, Earhart, and Tulane, depending on which ways you are coming in. I'd personally catch a cab from wherever you are staying and it'll be $15 or so. Much less hassle. There are also some hidden free parking lots around the stadium but they are difficult to find if you don't know where they are. </p>

In Laplace. It's where 55 runs into 10. If you're coming from Jackson, take the Laplace exit (Hwy51 I think). Go straight past the Shell and under 10. Bully's is on the left, less than a mile down the road. Worth the stop on the way to Nola to get the trip started.

The bloody Mary is the best I know of, and its Louisiana, so they put it in a to-go cup for you.

I've lived Uptown for awhile now, and my main rule is to avoid Bourbon. Now I know when people come here, including those coming for the SEC tournament, getting away from Downtown is seemingly impossible. There are some really awesome bars (and most with more character than the some French Quarter bars) Uptown and in Mid-City, but let's face it, If you're a tourist your feel like you shouldn't leave the Quarter or the CBD. Most of you will feel the need to drink on Bourbon, and see all the drunk flat bills throwing up on each other, so I'll try tostay away from reccomending any Uptown or Mid-City establsihments.

Get the hand grenades and Hurricanes (no matter what anybody says, Pat O's is not where locals hang out) out of your system then head to Jean Lafitte's (the oldest bar in America). Just be weary of the few blocks of rainbow colored flags in between the busy part of Bourbon and Lafitte's.

If you do want to go to a local watering hole, I'd suggest the Chart Room. High Life is always ridiculous cheap here.

If you really get the urge to go all Jersey Shore on us, head one block off Bourbon Street to Gold Mine. Get a flaming Dr. Pepper and jam out toyour late 90's rap mix. It is guaranteed to be on repeat there.

If you're feeling like you need an excellentcocktail at a not-so-decent price, head to Bombay Club, Bar Tonique, or the Carousel Bar at Hotel Monteleone. Get yourself a Vesper, Vieux Carre, or Sazerac, and get you lady-friend a French 75 or Ramos Gin Fizz. Trust me.

I second Frenchmen for REAL New Orleans live music, and would also reccomend the bars (Molly's on the Market, Pravda, etc.) on Lower Decatur. I think this is one of the most underrated portions of the French Quarter.

While we're on Decatur, I'd hit up Coop's Place for the rabbit jambalaya. If you catch yourself day-drinking (which most of us probably will), save your self some money, and stop by Sidney's Wine Cellar, and get yourself a sixpack of Abita Jockamo in cans. You can thank me later.

After the game Thursday, head over to Vaughan's Lounge in the Bywater (PLEASE DO NOT WALK) to catch Kermit Ruffin's and some of the best Red Beans you'll ever eat cooked by Kermit himself. There's a small cover charge , but drinks are cheap, and the beans are free.

Anything Donald Link (Cochon, Cochon Butcher, Herbsaint)does is ridiculously good. I'd go for the rabbit and dumplings at Cochon, and the Bacon Melt with Greensor Pork Belly Sandwich at Cochon Butcher.

The same can be said for John Besh (August, Besh Steak, Borgne, Luke, Domenica, American Sector, Soda Shop)does is always going to be good. Luke has a happy hour with 1/2 price drinks and $0.50 oysters EVERYDAY from 3:00- 6:00. Same goes for Domenica- 1/2 price drinks and the best pizza you'll ever eat for only $6.00. American sector has $0.75 short-rib sliders and meat pies, and 1/2 price drinks from 3:00 -6:00 as well.

Any of the Brennan's restaurants, well, beisdes the original Brennan's, are always excellent (Bourbon House, Redfish Grill, Cafe Adelaide, Mr. B's, etc.). Palace Cafe and Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse are also on this list, and bothhave$5.00 spiked Arnold Palmers, and $5.00 appetizersfrom 5:00 - 7:00.

If you want to gorge on fried seafood and you want to **** your pants 2 hours later, hit up Deanie's Seafood.

Skip Acme and Felix's and get your oyster fix with 2 dozen charbroiled oysters from Drago's.

An oft-overlooked restaurant in the CBD (where some of you will be staying) is Capdeville. The truffled mac & cheese and any of their burgers are awesome. I think they're better than Yo Mama's or Port of Call.

My all time personal favorite restaurant is Green Goddess. It won't be foreveryone, but for those adventurous eaters, it is excellent. Do yourself a favor and get the tasting menu.

My favorite brucnh in The Quarter just so happens to be the cheapest. EAT over on Dauphine has the best grillades and grits I've ever had and they're BYOB.

I'm cheating a little on this one, but it's well worth it. On Fridays at 2:00Uptown on Tchoupitoulas (hey, I told you I was cheating), NOLA Brewery does a free tour, with all the beer you can drink until 3:30. It's gotten pretty popular, so be prepared to wait a few minutes on a beer- go ahead and mix the Irish Channel Stout, and Hopitoulas. Remember, it's FREE.

In summary, my major rules:
Mardi Gras is over. Don't go buying beads thinking you're about to make a cameo on Girls Gone Wild: Bourbon Street.
If there is a guy trying to usher you into the restaurant from the street, or there is a plate with food covered by cellophane sitting outside the door, please don't eat there.
Drinklocal (Abita, Bayou Teche, NOLA, Heiner Brau, Old New Orleans Rum.

People are passionate about their food and drink down here, so this thread could go on all year. Hell, I could go on all day about the 5 block radius of bars and restaurants around my house. If anybody has any questions about a particular restaurant or bar, PM me (especially if you want to venture into Uptown or Mid-City.

<div>For those of you staying/hanging out in the Quarter/Downtown...</div><div>
</div>The Donald Link joints (Cochon, Cochon Butcher, Herbsaint).... The Butcher is my favorite lunch spot in the city: Bacon Melt is incredible. Pastrami top-notch. Cold Roast Beef is a favorite too. There's sure to be a ton of people in town, so if you want to go to Cochon (get: woodfire oyster roast and the smoked brisket) or Herbsaint (best gumbo I've ever had) I'd go ahead and make reservations now. Oh and don't be afraid of the line at Cochon Butcher (there's pretty much always one). Very little seating, but they get food out quickly. Hell, you could even call in an order and just take it to Lafayette square park and eat.<div>
</div><div>Luke Happy Hour (3-6 everyday) - I've enjoyed this many, many times. 50 cent P&J oysters and half-price cocktails. A true steal.</div><div>
</div><div>The FQ burger debate: Don't get me wrong,Port of Call makes a good burger, but I prefer Yo Mama's. Yo Mama's has more options and the quality of the burger is the same, if not better(and there's less of a line to deal with). Although, if you go to Port of Call and drink a Monsoon while you wait, you'll forget all about the line.
<div>
</div><div>Another nice point you touched on: The Lower Decatur area (Molly's, Pravda, Coops, El Gato Negro) There are a few really cool bars and some solid late night eating options. -Molly's is one of my favorite bars in Nola. Great atmosphere, inexpensive drinks, cool bartenders. Pravda is a cool place too with a nice patio out back. As pike said, Coop's has some killer jambalaya and the fried chicken is really good too. Right around the corner is El Gato Negro (really good mexican food and great margaritas). Every margarita is made with fresh fruit and the food is delicious. Get the Queso Chorizo Dip or the Pork Chops with mushroom and chorizo sauce. If you want some good pizza late night in the Quarter, and you don't feel like eating a Lucky Dog, check out Angeli on Decatur (open til 2 on Thus and 4 am on Fri/Sat)</div><div>
</div><div>Sure that cover band at Bourbon Street Blues Company is awesome when you're hammered, but if you want great live/local music head to Frenchmen Street. Pretty much every bar on the street will have live music, but a few places standout. As jamdawg96 said, d.b.a. always has a great show for $5 cover and an awesome beer and liquor menu. Blue Nile always has solid shows as well. The Spotted Cat is more low-key and doesn't have cover (one drink min.) and there's always some sort of jazz quartet or small group playing. Stop in, have a beer, listen to a few songs and bounce to the next bar. Hungry on Frenchmen? Three Muses has a fantastic tapas menu. What to get: Lamb Sliders (with tomato chutney and goat cheese...LEGIT) and Beet Bruschetta. Ok, so it's late and you want a good drunk meal? Go to 13 Monaghan and order the Tater Tachos. It's pretty self-explanatory. It's nachos with a slight twist: Tater tots instead of tortilla chips.</div><div>

Did a large shrimp Po-boy there yesterday with gravy cheese fries. By gravy them mean roast beef chunks, gravy, and cheese covered fries. This roast beef is what Mother's wants to be.
