Seems like in the Jackie day's if we opened with a 49-0 blow out of an opponent ( even a softie) we would be ranked. We need that signature win over a Top 25 team to earn the respect.

I don't

think we have done anything to warrant being in the top 25, at this point. USM is terrible. Maybe the worst team in the nation, regardless of division.

Not enough teams below us lost to make room. The only way we make it into the top 25 before LSU is if some teams in the 20s post losses.

If we have the type season we are hoping to have, we won't have any trouble being ranked by the end of the year. Just win, the polls will take care of themselves.

Exactly ...

Not enough teams below us lost to make room. The only way we make it into the top 25 before LSU is if some teams in the 20s post losses.

Too many OOC games against weak opposition to make a real move from #29 in Coach's Poll. UCLA, Wisconsin, USCe, Clemson all fell BUT stayed ahead of MSU. Meanwhile, even with a 49-0 blanking of USM, State got passed in this poll by both Louisville (#28 - Up 10) and Oklahoma State (#26 - Up 7)

SEC Teams

Bama #2 - Even
Auburn #5 - Even
Georgia #8 - Up 4
LSU #12 - Up 1
Texas A&M #13 - UP 7
Ole Miss #17 - Up 2
USCe #21 - Down 12
Missouri #22 - Up 4
Florida #26 - Even
Mississippi State #29 - Even

Could there be 6 West teams ranked in a week or two? That's ridiculous

Yes, easily could be, and they could all be playing each other on October 4.

We should be 4-0 at Ole Miss. Bama should be 4-0, and would still be ranked even with a loss to Florida. Auburn will still be ranked even with a loss to Kansas State. LSU will still be ranked, even with a loss to MSU. A&M isn't losing before then.

Essentially, if MSU beats LSU on Sept. 20, then the A&M-MSU game, the Auburn-LSU game, and the Bama-Ole Miss game will all be West games between Top 25 ranked teams. I'm guessing no division in football has ever had that happen. It's probably rare to have that happen across an entire conference on a single weekend, much less a division.

Week 2 Games:

Michigan State v Oregon. OSU looking shaky after loss of Miller and Wisconsin's loss to LSU, B1G's hopes fall on the Spartans win over Oregon. Would really hate it (***) if the B1G becomes 'non-contender' after Week 2.

Missouri has a tougher opp @ Toledo and I think they are ranked too high at #22.

USCe game with East Carolina in no 'walk in the park' either; Kentucky also will be interesting to watch - Ohio is tougher than UT Martin.

SEC West - Don't think that any west team will be challenged at all; don't know when I have seen a team digress as fast as Vandy. Heard to believe that they won 9 games the past two years.

TAM jumps 12 spots to #9. USC drops 12 spots to #21....

Essentially traded places. USC deserved to fall. Not sure TAM deserved that kind of bounce from one game.

I'm not even sure why they have polls anymore. I get the AP poll, although it lost relevance after it dropped out of the BCS formula. Still, the AP has been putting out a poll since the 1930s, and, in theory, the AP could still award its championship trophy to some team other than the one that wins the championship game.

But the Coach's poll? Why bother? The coaches are too busy to really even vote in the thing, it has no relevance at all, and the committee of 13 is going to release its own Top 25 poll in October. The coaches should vote to quit having the poll.

To clarify ...

Yes, UCLA won BUT they fell four places in the USA Today Coaches Poll from #7 to #11.

Coaches were not impressed with their win over Virginia ...

Seventh-ranked UCLA scored three defensive touchdowns in the second quarter Saturday and Hundley led them on a critical second-half scoring drive as the Bruins escaped Virginia 28-20 in the opener for both teams
