From what I have been hearing about no staff changes, now comes this.

Croom is now committed to changing the offense this spring and fall! Great news you say? Well rumor is Croom is prepared to do with this with the current staff!!

What do you do if your Byrne?

The only thing that is keeping the brick from being tired around my neck is the hope that the people i hear stuff are not "insiders".

that seemed to help a lot this year.

if true this would be one of those situations where croom would buy two more years of suck for himself. one to implement and blame the crapiness on implementation and one more to suck and be fired. fantastic news.

luckily i don't think it is true.

maybe people would actually believe Croom if every spring/summer Croom didn't talk about "now we can open it up" and it never happens. Plus you can't install a new offense when no one on the staff has experience teaching said offense.

That's what doomed Woody - he didn't know the WCO, much less how to teach. Sure, we all know Croom is the real OC, but you still need coaches to teach it during practice and Woody had no idea what to do and from the looks of it on the field you can argue that no one on the staff does.

Without a doubt- Byrne has told Crooms there has to be changes or start winning...well, he didnt start winning

This is probably Crooms counteroffer to Byrne..trying to save his *** AND his staff...

Now its Byrne's turn to say "fire them or you're fired- how bout that?"

forcing Croom to do things he doesn't want to do AND things he doesn't feel as if he should do, will only result in Croom coaching with a bad attitude and even dumber decisions, which will ultimately result in his firing next year, likely after a less-than-3 win season, with most of them being blow-outs. Just prolongs the inevitable. I don't want to go through that **** again. Even though Croom will resign midyear, probably, it will suck for our university to get embarrassed 9-10-11 times. It will be a horrible situation.

If Croom doesn't work with Byrne on this WILLINGLY, then Byrne, if he has any aptitude for management, will be forced to fire Croom this year. That's basically what it boils down to. The only way Croom can stay another year and hope to have a respectable year is if the staff changes go smoothly. How will that happen? Only Byrne knows. But we know Croom will throw a fit if pushed. It's not a good situation, and it will not end well. The only way it could is if we beat Arky and UM and then have a killer recruiting class and we still have staff changes.

We may get lucky and get Croom fired, but it won't be pretty.

It sounds in line with crxxms quote the other day about when he goes public there will already be a plan in place. Maybe he will have Polk write the book for him to present to the public or whatever.

I shamefully admit I can see it happening. Byrne better have the sac to do what needs to be done or I am all in favor of diverting funds from the football program the "Major League" way and let Stans and Cohen have whatever they want(practice facility, video equipment, whatever) till crxxms quits.

I agree , Croom seems to be a very stubborn guy. A guy that really wholeheartedly believes in what he's doing. I doubt seriously he would let an AD tell him how to coach football.

There is no way in hell this is true. Fan support would be close to an all time low if nothing was done after this season.

For HEaven's sake I hope GB is sacrificing 09 to prove to Croom what a doofus he actually is.

at Bama. In fact, he was the first OC to lose to MSU since 1980 when he was there. They weren't running the WCO there either, I think it has more to do with Woody being a bad coach than the scheme of the offense.

That said, I do think your point about him not knowing how to run the "WCO" is valid. If that's what Croom wants to run, he should have sent his coaches to study under coaches who know how to run and implement it successfully. All Croom really did when he came here was photocopy his Green Bay Packers playbook and put the copies in binders that said M-State. He then told Woody to run the offense.

If you have a good coach, they should be able to competently run any offense whether it's a WCO, the spread, flexbone, whatever.

Woody helped Gene Stallings get fired, and now he's working on Croom. He's a position coach and that should be the extent of it.

I would let it ride until I had the best possible replacement for Croom lined up. I hope Byrne has better sense than to attempt to micro-manage Croom.
