however, we understand that is not applicable. We really need to overhall the entire system.

I wonder if a private investment of several million dollars could start a satellite campus in Madison and Biloxi?

programs from Ole Miss, State, and USM? I know all kinds of territorial **** would come up, but that doesn't seem like a bad idea. Then again, distance learning via the tubernets may have taken over that market.

Well technically we are in every county through the extension office. They do a lot of different things in each community. To answer your question though we do need to branch out to more places than just Meridian.

you could take undergraduate classes from Ole Miss, Miss State, Hinds JC, etc. It's now solely a part of Jackson State Univ.

MSU has the fifth year architecture program in Jackson as well as several experiment stations. Other than that though, you're right. That being said, more folks are taking advantage of distance education opportunities via the Internet.

I think MSU would love to open a place in Jackson, but highly unlikely that IHL would allow it with JSU being there. Also, same goes for the Coast with USM having the Gulf Park campus. UM got away with the Tupelo and Southaven branches because there are no competing institutions. Also, one of those places is UM Medical Center, which has as many MSU undergrads as UM undergrads.

...but in the unlikely event a branch campus in the Jackson area opened, then it most likely would either be in Pearl near the Hinds campus or in Ridgeland near the Holmes campus. And forget Biloxi, that's USM's area, and they will fight tooth and nail.

That's why I mentioned the outer areas of Jackson. The IHL probably would balk at any idea of this. However, if we partnered with some of the community colleges like UM&ICC at Tupelo, UM&Northwest at Southaven, and UM&Holmes in Grenada they would possibly let it slip by. The extension and internet stuff is breaking into markets, but many people still prefer sitting in classes at a scheduled time. The Hinds CC Brandon Branch (out by Miskelly's) would be an ideal location. If we want to go into Madison, then we could partner with Holmes to build them a branch there. Just random ideas on a slow day. I just think that State is being stagnent while UM is moving out to the people and passing us by.

Each state institution MSU, OM, JSU, USM, Alcorn, Delta State, "competes" with every other state institution and many of the community college institutions for what is already limited operation funding. To just state that MSU needs to open other campuses might not be the best investment of the limited money budgeted to university level education in Mississippi.

Maybe we should combine all of the schools under one management structure and just add the ame of the town where each campus resides.

Then you could have Mississippi State University-Starkville, MSU-Oxford, MSU-Hattiesburg, MSU-Jackson.

You get the idea?

I guess the football team could move from campus to campus each year. Then you could have the Bulldogs-Starkville Season, Bulldogs-Hattiesburg Season, Bulldogs- Cleveland Season...No that sounds hard to deal with. It probably would be best to just put the team in Starkvegas and leave it there. OM has such world renouned diversity they could put Soccer (and collegate competitive whiskey drinking) there. Rugby could go to USM, since there would then be an acceptable reason for low attendance at their games.

I vote for JSU to have the band perminantly, because "their band rocks!"

I'd vote for Baseball and Basket Ball to remain at MSU, because I SAID SO, and IN MY WORLD, I RULE!
