Man it's almost as if, yet again, you don't know what's actually being addressed. I love MR, but again he's relying on you not knowing the details.
1. Illegal immigrants working under false papers pay into SS, they get nothing out. That is the only thing that's been discussed here. Illegal immigrants. You understand that Rubio is not discussing illegals, he's discussing refugees (who are legal), correct?
2. Legal immigrants are lawful workers in the USA, and qualify for the same working benefits based on paying into the Social Security system. Legal immigrants who work for 30-40 years do receive SS retirement benefits ... because they paid into the system like us.
3. The laws on Cuban immigration are different than almost all other groups, meaning a Cuban at times can get legal and refugee status through mechanisms unavailable to others. This is anachronism of the Cold War. Perhaps we should change these laws, though Republicans would not be for that on a standalone basis (because Cubans vote more R than D). This doesn't make a Cuban illegal eligible for benefits.
It's almost as if the whole immigration system should be overhauled, which would require Republicans to compromise on some of their most hardline stuff (which is basically about legal immigration restrictions). I would like merit-based legal immigration combined with guest workers for lower skill work. I think our asylum system is terrible and should be overwhelmingly limited, perhaps via a yearly Congressional vote on which countries have citizens who would potentially qualify for refugee status.
