Btw, guys, it's Trump bleeping up the GOP right now. Trump. Not Susan Collins (who may well win). Not Greg Abbott. Not John Thune , Mike Johnson, or even Paul Ryan (hehe).

TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP.

Trump blew it, and now you are going to pay. It was always written this way, the option was to reject him before he got off the ground!

Man it's almost as if, yet again, you don't know what's actually being addressed. I love MR, but again he's relying on you not knowing the details.

1. Illegal immigrants working under false papers pay into SS, they get nothing out. That is the only thing that's been discussed here. Illegal immigrants. You understand that Rubio is not discussing illegals, he's discussing refugees (who are legal), correct?

2. Legal immigrants are lawful workers in the USA, and qualify for the same working benefits based on paying into the Social Security system. Legal immigrants who work for 30-40 years do receive SS retirement benefits ... because they paid into the system like us.

3. The laws on Cuban immigration are different than almost all other groups, meaning a Cuban at times can get legal and refugee status through mechanisms unavailable to others. This is anachronism of the Cold War. Perhaps we should change these laws, though Republicans would not be for that on a standalone basis (because Cubans vote more R than D). This doesn't make a Cuban illegal eligible for benefits.

It's almost as if the whole immigration system should be overhauled, which would require Republicans to compromise on some of their most hardline stuff (which is basically about legal immigration restrictions). I would like merit-based legal immigration combined with guest workers for lower skill work. I think our asylum system is terrible and should be overwhelmingly limited, perhaps via a yearly Congressional vote on which countries have citizens who would potentially qualify for refugee status.
Lower skill work should require immigrants to have a required place of work in the USA, prior to entry.

You have been mostly anti everything Trump since 2015. Yes, the GOP(controlling party) is expected to lose seats and potentially congressional control. This not earth shattering at all. It is expected. You and **** crazy stoney can high five in this thread all you want, but this would be the expected outcome with any controlling party. 🥂

What is happening right now is not normal and not under control. There's actual revolt among conservative-leaning independents and non-MAGA Rs.

Yes, Dems should win the midterms. Dems should take the House. Dems should not be looking likely to win Texas, Ohio, and Alaska Senate seats ... with Iowa on a knife's edge and Kansas/Nebraska not off the table. Greg Abbott should not be in trouble (I still think he wins, but my confidence is shaken right now). The Republican Texas and Florida gerrymanders should not be collapsing.

You hand waive this away because you don't like to face the consequences. The GOP got away with Trump once (I did vote for him in 2020 btw), but the post-January 6 Trump and MAGA apparatus just aren't the same. The GOP isn't getting away with it again.

We could have had DeSantis. Or Rubio. Or whomever would have been sane and ... more conservative on most issues. Alas, the Trump bet was placed a third time, and it just went BUST.

Wait, wat??? I thought we were told immigrants only pay into SS. Maybe Rubio is wrong?

********. Rubio has sold his soul to Trump, and it will destroy his future in politics. Yesterday he said that Putin was welcomed and invited to G20 by Trump as it was the smart thing to do to talk to him.

Typhoons ?
Because I'm a climate kind of guy I looked it up. A typhoon is a hurricane that occurs in the Western and Northern Pacific. A hurricane is a hurricane that occurs in the Eastern and Central Pacific and the Atlantic. If a hurricane starts in the Eastern Pacific and crosses the international date line it becomes a typhoon. Apparently the name typhoon goes way back in history when England was sailing the Pacific and it is what their sailors called the storms. I think the US influenced the use of the name hurricane elsewhere, particularly once we annexed Hawaii in 1898.

ps. below the equator they rotate the opposite direction and are supposed to be called cyclones

I don't think many care the exact immigration status of someone here 3 months that receives intended US citizen safety net dollars.
Think it out. How long did you have to work to earn a monthly SS benefit of $1,500? Did you earn any benefit after working only 3 months? Same rules apply to an immigrant paying in on an approved status.
