Him hiring a lawyer doesn't let me know any of that. It only tells me that he's wanting to protect himself and his son. People hire lawyers all the time without being involved in some huge conspiracy. That's a reach.EClass04 said:The fact that the Newton's have also lawyered up lets you know that Cam's recruitment is only a small part of something much bigger and highly illegal going on behind the scenes.
but you are showing an amazing level of ignorance as to how the world works. There is a level in society where you just use lawyers for things. When I owned my own small business in Jackson I used lawyers for lots of things. We had them look over employment agreements, just to be sure the language was right. We had them look over our incorporation papers, just to make sure everything was right. We had them look over contracts and other agreements as well. If I were dealing with a cloud of controversy that was playing out in the press I would hire a lawyer, just as John bond did, just as Bill Bell did and just as Cecil Newton did. That does not at all mean that you are involved in some huge conspiracy.EClass04 said:AED,
1. It may just be my own ignorance getting in the way, but I've never encountered a circumstance where I had to hire a lawyer just so I couldsay, "Hey, I didn'tdo it". I could be wrong, but I don't think the owner of the radio station could send you to jail for that.
2. As I and many others have posted in recent days, the presence of the FBI should put everyone on notice that this situation is more than just a possible NCAA rules violation. Not to mention the recent federal indictment of several AU boosters on money laundering and gambling charges.
So while the Newtons may have done nothingillegal by allegedly getting "paid to play", the fact that the payment in question is tied to AU and possibly the same boosters mentioned in point #2 gives that family greater worries than the NCAA.
