I will make this short and sweet. We are going to have to settle on a third rate coach and just hope that we are the first ones to discover him. Maybe he will learn to love MSU like we do and not want to leave if he wins.

I'm not going as far as Noel Mazzone, but let's just be honest with ourselves

Only the shittiest coaches are interested in making 2.5mil. Enough with these crazy *** post. We may not have gotten Petersen but so far that is all that we know. Stick your head back up your *** and just wait a couple of days. Resist the urge to post.

As soon as one is announced, until then, don't sweat it. The way I rate it, we just fired a 5th rate coach so 3rd rate is two full steps up. It should be noted that none of the coordinator names recently floating around have made it clear they weren't interested.

We can go buy whoever we want. If you havnt noticed we basically have unlimited funds. Byrne will rescue the program, i mean he will be like a kid in a candy story with our budget and possibilities. He is just making sure we get the best possible candidate before we throw 3 million at them.

We could easily get a good coach and a 1st rate coach. It's your type of thinking that has left MSU settling for mediocrity for a long time now.
Your screen name sucks and you need to go back to swan lake. Or either go post on Southern Miss' board where people think just like you.

Edited to say: We have plenty of money to go out and buy a coach. Leo Seal left us with many many millions and again you are Phuckin idiot

A) I suppose Wilson could be considered second rate, even though no one else seems to want him and I don't think he is going to come.
B) It would be irrational to pay any of the guys still in consideration 2.5m.
C) I agree that getting a third rate coach is a big upgrade from our fifth rate coach.

Exactly. If you guys can land Petersen, Patterson, or Kelly, then you consider offering in the $2M range. However, if you have to go get a coordinator like Wilson or Mullen or someone like that, then I wouldn't pay more than $1M-$1.5M tops.

Just because you can afford to pay $2M-$2.5M doesn't mean that you have to pay it to your head coach. I'll be curious to see what Byrne does about that. I am still not sure whether it was him or LT, but whoever it was made a big mistake in raising Croom's salary to $1.7M. I know other coaches in the SEC were making more, but they had earned it. You don't pay a coach money just because you can, and I feel like that's what MSU did with Croom's last raise.

I remember in 2005 during the search when we hired Orgeron that we had said we would be willing to offer in the $1.7M range for our new coach, but that was only if we managed to land an experienced coach that was worth the money. Instead, we landed Orgeron, and we paid him accordingly, in the $900K range, which was near the bottom of the SEC at the time. If Byrne brings in Mullen or Wilson and pays them $2M+, then that would be a dumb move.
