Let's see what happens with the 2/3 guys who visited Duke recently. If we get none of them, that would be a bad sign.

Jon and Hubert both need to show they can recruit. Davis has reeled 2 in already, now it's Jon's turn. Yes I know Jon has recruited for Coach K, but this is different. Once we get the first one we can get some momentum.

I think Jon gets whitehead and some more top recruits he’s offered. Davis is actually coaching this upcoming season so we will see how he does.

Garcia was rated #37, about the same as Mark Williams. I don't think that the analysts are the smartest people as both Williams and Garcia were obviously 5 star prospects.

Bates Jones is not a walk-on. He is a recruited, scholarship player. The nature of the first contact is irrelevant to that status,

Nothing that I've written suggests that I think Jones is going to be an impact player. I would be (pleasantly) surprised to see him give Duke quality minutes in games whose outcome has not already been decided. But that was not the question to which I was responding.

Never said that he was a walk on. I know that he’s a scholarship player also. But gonna have to agree to disagree on the recruited part.

I know you didn’t was just explaining my position more in depth. Guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens with how the squad improves and plays over the course of the season

Bates Jones adds value as a practice player and a guy to body up Williams. Theo John has not been able to practice much the past few seasons due to injury.

I hope Bates has a great season for Duke but in the past 3 years at Davidson he has averaged playing 12 minutes and scoring less than 2.5 pts a game. I think in this case the ceiling may be lower than the roof.

Any word on Theo knees? Are they chronic or has he recovered?

Ok maybe not a multi year guy, ha. I see some Laettner in his game. He has a good all around game, and they have praised his toughness. I said "some" before I get killed in the comments. :)

I hate it when we/I label a white guy as being like another white guy, but here it fits. He does have some Laettner skills. The difference is Laettner did it on the biggest stages, was tough as nails from Day One, and simply was one of the best ever at the college level. So maybe I'll tap the brakes on designating Flip as Laettner 2.0.

I'm not expecting back to back titles and POY. But he is a very nice player with an inside outside game.
