RU Fans,

Next week is another meeting and it will be great since we can provide feedback on different issues as well as bring up topics for discussion.

As you are tailgating, getting to the stadium, in the stadium during the game, etc. If you have areas for improvement or comments or concerns about ways to enhance the experience, please list them here.

I would like to give a list of potential topics by end of this week if there is a big enough issue that comes up. We have talked about food and options at nauseam so some other things would be great. I have not been able to go to other venues this year but for others that have and thought something was great, please let us know.

Thanks.
  • knightingale service on traveling between the johnson park bus area / South Gate and going to the north gate side/scarlet walk (and/or further to various parking lots). As it stands now the only assisted transportation I know of is on the North side.

I'd go a step farther..(or less LOL)...need some type of shuttle bus service from the remote (Tan/Lt Blue/Silver) that could run from front of the Busch Student Center to the Circle between top of Blue/Yellow and drop you off there. Those walks are killer from back there for some of the older folks. Yeah...wonder what a couple of trams would cost to rent (if possible) in the off season from Great Adventure or even a couple of the old New Brusnwick trolley's easy on-easy off vs. load 1 at a time school bus.

There is no direct way to get to 287 North when exiting the purple lot after games. You can't make a right turn off the circle (at the back of the blue/yellow Lots) in order to go towards the golf course which will take you to Hoes Lane and then River Road. And, the River Road exit off of 18 South is closed after games. Are there any other, even slightly, direct routes to get to 287 North?

Can you go through the circle with the Yellow Lot on your right, and get onto Route 18 North? You could take Route 18 past Avenue E and take Metlars Lane to 287 North.

Yea, that's what I've been doing. But, wish they didn't block both of the access points to River Road.

RU Boken... That would be something I, and a lot of other fans heading north and west would be interested in asking.

Said it on the Round Table. Stop playing piped in music every second in between plays. Let the band play and chants start. It would make for a great college atmosphere instead of feeling like your in a night club.

I agree w/this. The piped in music is overdone for my tastes.

Then again, I might do away with the piped in music entirely. So maybe I'm not the best judge of what the right amount of piped-in bad music played too loudly in a terrible acoustic environment through a PA system clearly not designed for playing music should be.

Would it be pushing our luck to inquire as to the possibility of a hookers and blow concession? Think of the potential for profits. Think of the bottom line.

I was in the blue lot last game and I wanted to take rt 18 south, since that is how I go home. Wasn't allowed and was instead forced onto 287. That wasn't my favorite thing. But I know they are working on improving the flow out so I'm sure there is a good reason for it.

Take the Circle to Campus Rd
Hoes Lane (Rt18 North) for about a mile or so
(From this point follow signs to 287 North)
Left on Centennial Avenue (.1 miles)
Right on Possumtown Rd (.1 miles)
Left on Ramp to I-287 North at exit 8

Agree but IMO more important to get those who pay to park in regular RU Lots first...Need the Knightingale Shuttle to get out to the outer Black, Silver, Light Blue and Tan.

At least on the South Gate side you have an elevator to get you in.

@RUBoken inhave said this before but don't know if anyone has brought it up at the meetings. Other stadiums (Giants/Jets) have their radio station on in the bathrooms and throughout the concourse of the stadium. It may alleviate the rush to the bathrooms in between quarters. Nice little upgrade that can't cost too much. Essentially you would have Lucas and Carlon on throughout the stadium. Doesn't have to be loud just noticeable.

I have seen at most if not all the other Big Ten stadiums have flags of all the other schools in the conference flying in the stadium. It would be a nice touch and show pride in our conference mates if we could also do so at HPSS.[/QUOTE]

Flagpoles behind the north end zone stands would work well.

Both of these suggestions have been brought up by me at previous advisory board meetings.

Anybody have suggestions for what the bulk of the meeting will be about: getting students into the game, marketing, and increasing attendance at non-revenue sports?

RU Athletics should make a photo "R" (like they do for FB) for every team sport.

Disagree. Loved the piped music and the students do too. MSU atmosphere was amazing and OSU will be better.
Agree - I'd do away with the band and have all piped in music (I know that's not a popular opinion, lol). My one comment, though, is I do wish they'd either turn the volume down slightly or improve the sound quality, as there's too much distortion at the current volumes.

Also, I wish the ribbon scoreboards ringing the upper level were about 6-8" lower, as they partially obstruct the view for anyone who is short in the first row or two (even for me, at 6'2", I have to lean forward a bit). My guess is this would affect the view from the luxury boxes, which I'm sure they'd never do.

You don't want that as it'll take a lot longer for you & everyone else. 18N to 287N is quick & easy.

I find this bothersome also. Way to NBA or minor league baseball if you ask me. But it might be a generational thing? I'm not hip to what is cool with the kids.

THIS needs to be addressed.

I have already offered the loop design for this but was told "not this year."

The Knightingale karts are told "this is as far as I'm allowed to go" pretty much every time I've ridden them, even without asking, to that intersection to go into Purple. The past few games, they have them just lined up, 3 or 4, empty and sitting there. Instead of wasting time sitting around empty, send 2 to black, maybe 1 to silver, etc. Not a hard concept.

Exactly.

Not sure why something as simple as this has not been implemented yet. I will give RU a pass for last year but this was brought to their attention LAST year to work on it for THIS year.

At the risk of beating a dead horse. The band:

1) GET THE BAND OUT OF THE PRIME REAL ESTATE (move the band next to 101 where they still influence the students cheers) and fill those seats with students and young alums
2) Get the band off the microphones they sound TERRIBLE due to the slight delay from the speakers. You hear both the band and the speakers and they are out of sync (sounds small time)

Maryland has all the schools' flags on top of their stadium. Their band also carries all the flags during their pregame show, and all the logos are on banners at the entrances to campus.

Where does RU currently do this? The RAC and Scarlet Fever (an independent business).

I'm in purple this year, and as others have mentioned, 18 north is an ok workaround. It's not great but Easton ave is another option.

I don't think purple should have access to either of the points you're requesting though. That adds cars to the busiest pedestrian crossings and slows exit from the biggest lots (excluding yellow).

Opening the 18 exit sends cars to where the students cross river road. And you already have scarlet and green exiting there too.

Anyone walking to the outer lots past blue has to cross the circle on the blue/sonny werblin side. Letting purple make the right would interfere with that pedestrian flow as well as the blue exit.

I used to be in blue for years. A tight game + a capacity crowd equals at least an hour to get out of blue. My group and many others resorted to post game tailgates (and drinking after a game is a pretty bad idea imho). We'd see cars pull out next to us and not move ten feet in 90 minutes. Blue is much larger than purple, etc so the current policy isn't that crazy. I'm sure there are ways to tweak it, but it's hard to get around instantaneously adding 15,000+ cars on those roads.

The problem with this is that the Knightingale service is really supposed to be for older (senior) folks and folks maybe that have a walking disability? Like a handicapped spot..I'm not taking one regardless unless I absolutely needed it. I used it once 2 years ago when I had a serious Gout attack and was on crutches..only because I thought folks could see the crutches and not think me some lazy fat a$$. (fat yeah, lazy hell no)

Plus if you walk up with younger folks who gets on and who has to walk.

Unless they reinvented the whole thing and provided enough of the carts such that they were just open and enough for all without the fear of taking some old guy or gals spot.

#1 great idea, I love it. And it gets rid of that eyesore of an empty section right before the half.

We talked about this last year, too, and I agree! No reason 175 or so kids should take up 500 seats smack in the middle of the student section. If you put them in the corner, like 132, then THAT section will always look "full," instead of half-empty in the 2nd half, when kids move more towards the center. The one thing I noticed last game (see pic below) was that they DID give the 5 rows or so, above the band, to students. Realistically, 350 member bands can fit in the space out 175/180 do, I see it all the time, but whatever.

Next, they need to "mic" the band again, like they did a couple of years ago, you really can't hear them following a TD.

Also...one more thing....STOP playing "The Bells Must Ring" after the TD. Wait for the damn extra point THEN play it so that the entire stadium is aware of what's going on. During the MSU game I heard at least 2 different things happen:

- played through the words part, following TD, then started all over after XP, going through words a second time, but also...

- played to the XP, stopped, started again

...but, being I can hardly hear them from 121, I'm not 100% sure! Play "Colonel Rutgers" AFTER the TD then "The Bells Must Ring" after the XP. Pretty simple, right?

They can't use one or two rutgers buses?

To the poster talking about 287 north.... Why would you rather take a one lane river road than a 2 lane route 18 north? The road is much better now as they took out about 3 traffic lights since last year.
