Next year we are fine, hope we don’t have to burn his freshman year after the semester. It's early. We have good to great options at 41 and 49.
What about 133?

He just beat a 6th year Senior, 8th Ranked, ACC Champ, 3x qualifier and All-American.He only scored 5 points against a senior who's qualified for the tournament once (1-2). I urged caution after Vega's first win and I'll be the bad guy and do it again.
I'm a huge Vega fan and he's looked great, but keep in mind his competition. His potential is super high, but he's still a true freshman and hasn't been tested yet.
I love his funkHe just beat a 6th year Senior, 8th Ranked, ACC Champ, 3x qualifier and All-American.
Hell yeah he did!!He just beat a 6th year Senior, 8th Ranked, ACC Champ, 3x qualifier and All-American.
Swiderski's issue is conditioning. Always has been. It's really, really bad.I think Swiderski can fix his issues if he keeps his head right, but if that doesn't happen, it seems our two best options are Tagen and Teague.
Tagen has always been my preference at 149, but his health obviously puts that into question. I think 149 is not ideal for Teague because it's a really tough cut. In the universe where we go with Teague, do you save him until Big 12s again so he doesn't have to cut weight for months and just does it for two tournaments?
Too be fair, 174 got a brutal lineup for the weekend. For discussion, order of concern right now. How do you see differently?
1. 149 - should be wide open. Try Jamison and/or Travis?
2. 133 - roll with Ramirez? Have this weight 2nd bc Ramirez looks like a suitable replacement.
3. 174 - need offense, brutal weekend
4. 184 - need offense, brutal weekend
5. 197 - feel better about the raw material right now than 74 & 84 due to offensive proclivity.
For sure. Vega, Lockett, Spratley, and others had brutal weekends as well.Too be fair, 174 got a brutal lineup for the weekend.
Fair, I think he’s a good “plug” but if it doesn’t click we should recruit over him.For sure. Vega, Lockett, Spratley, and others had brutal weekends as well.
Not writing Facundo off, the point is, relative to the rest of the team and where does everyone stand coming out this weekend vs. where OSU needs them to be in chasing down PSU.
FWIW, the HC specifically called out 184, 174, and 149, and doesn’t seem super concerned.
The news didn’t originate from this board, which I what my concerns are.
It definitely did but you deleted itThe news didn’t originate from this board, which I what my concerns are.
100% in agreement in all areas. Sounds like it’s Jax’ call at the end of the day.Gotta be honest, I don’t think it makes any sense to have Jax on competing for 2nd semester and burning a year of eligibility like that. If it’s a gray shirt or redshirt semester, okay sure. Just seems shortsighted to me. But there’s also a reason I’m not on staff in Stillwater

Enrolling and taking a RS is wasting a year that's ridiculous and funny at the same time. They should definitely do thatGotta be honest, I don’t think it makes any sense to have Jax on competing for 2nd semester and burning a year of eligibility like that. I never said I was a smart manEnrolling and taking a RS is wasting a year that's ridiculous and funny at the same time. They should definitely do that![]()
I do not have Spratley as a "should be NCAA finalist." "Could be" for me. Like you said he's super inconsistent and he's not a smart wrestler IMO. His loss to Peterson of Iowa was one of the dumbest I've ever seen and cost us the match. His tournament will be about matchups. There are a few guys he can't beat. I think Top-6 is more realistic. On the positive:
125: consistency has always been the issue here, should be Big 12 Champ and National Finalist
141: Big 12 Finalist and AA
157: tough B12, but definite AA
165:B12 Champ and National Finalist?
285: Big 12 Finalist, borderline AA
Yes you do on Spratley. You've seen it happen six times the past two years.Swid and Figs both gas. Different approaches though. Swid at least seems to know he’ll gas and so he conserves energy.
Sprat should keep the foot on the gas. When he goes cagey he seems to lose the close ones more often than not. I don’t have any hard data to back that up though.
So true. He failed his test of "is he an elite wrestler?" But he still could be good. Top 5-8ish.Too be fair, 174 got a brutal lineup for the weekend.
He was a finalist last year and he already looks like a better wrestler this year, despite the slip up against Iowa. His fitness and conditioning are at a peak.I do not have Spratley as a "should be NCAA finalist." "Could be" for me. Like you said he's super inconsistent and he's not a smart wrestler IMO. Not having Gilman and RBY will hurt him but Troy is a junkyard dog and will be right there in MarchHe was a finalist last year and he already looks like a better wrestler this year, despite the slip up against Iowa. His fitness and conditioning are at a peak.
Yes he CAN get to the finals but it is going to be a very tough road. It will come down to draw. He's shown he can't beat Robinson or Strickenberger. Lilledahl is a beast. So is Bouzakis. And now Peterson is a problem. I really hope I'm wrong. He was a finalist last year and he already looks like a better wrestler this year, despite the slip up against Iowa. I would be surprised if Bouzakis can be an effective 125 all year, that's a crazy pull I would think. Pretty sure McCrone wrestled the morning duals and Bouzakis wrestled in the afternoon this past weekend. Well to be honest I was only able to keep one eye open Saturday morning after our get together at mcnellies FridayGood eye
They gave McCrone Wyoming and the Nebraska back up. Bousakis got Volk and Dean so it looks like we know how Tom Ryan is leaning. He also started the cut long ago and did it right and shrunk his body. My guess is they have a certain # of weigh ins in mind for him.I would be surprised if Bouzakis can be an effective 125 all year, that's a crazy pull I would think. Potentially Jax is an all time great, so yes it won't be hard to replace him. Wrestle half a year ( practice half a year) doesn't make sense to me but it appears it will happen. Time will tell if this was a good decision. Robideau and Lockett decision seems to have been decided. I hope this works out but if we don't win a championship in the next 4 years and Jax, Landon and Dee are done wrestling for the Cowboys that will be sad. You don't replace these 3. I think each will be all time greats.DT won't be struggling to find another hammer 4 years from now
