Who are the teams with the chances to make it to Salem next year?

Region A: Essex and Rappahannock both return lots of key players including Holmes, Stewart and Bundy for Essex and Madison and Kelly for Rapp.

Region B- Riverheads will definitely be the favorite in B. I know Altavista loses Stone, but do return some other key players. Unsure on what Buffalo Gap returns, but they played Altavista tough this year

Region C- Grayson returns the QB Goad and his twin brother. George Wythe is always in the mix. Look for these two to battle it out in C.

Region D- Eastside returns a lot from a good team this year, including their RB Hamilton, who is only a sophomore. I know Rye Cove loses Lane, but do return some other key players.

Anything I'm off on or any team you want to add, please do so.

Lebanon. Will win Region D and the semifinal game if I were a betting man. Had a young team and returns a lot, including the best HS QB West of Roanoke in Virginia at any level. Would be surprised if Lebanon isn't in Salem with what they return and dropping down to Class 1.

II didn't know that they were dropping down to class 1. Yes, they should definitely be the favorites with Reese returning

I just looked on the VHSL website for next year's region alignment and it's still showing them in class 2. Has something changed that the VHSL hasn't updated?

Just wanted to add that Rapp is also returning 9 starters on defense including the reigning NNK & Region A DPOY Chase Self. I fully expect Essex vs Rapp in the Regional Championship unless.......

Unless they do something different with the playoff format next year. Remember that the PowerPoint system is going away so I wonder what they are going to replace it with? Will they go back to the East vs West format? I'm curious to find out what they do & when would all of this be finalized?

I was told a week ago by 2 of their fans on the other board they were dropping. So now, I have no idea. If they do drop, I don't see anyone in the West beating them. If they stay Class 2, they would arguably be the 3rd best Class 2 team in D next year with what they return and what Va High, Tazewell and Ridgeview lose.

I'll go with Essex to get it done again since Lebanon's appeal was denied. Might have gone with Essex anyway. I think Essex gets over the hump with Riverheads, but Riverheads would have a tough time getting there with Altavista and Buffalo Gap in their Region.

1A in every sport is just BAD until the state quarter finals at best........ Most every sport will be dominated by 7-10 teams out of 60.

How would Essex or Grayson have done in class 2 this year?
Grayson would’ve been the 2nd/3rd best team in 2C IMO. They beat down Floyd who ended up being the 4 seed and I think they would’ve beaten Radford and given Gretna all they wanted.

not Salem but Luray will be C-1 next year. Don't know about FB but they will impact the hoops race.

I believe that Riverheads and Altavista will meet in the regular season for the next two years. If so, we won't have to wait until the playoffs to get a feel for how they stack up against one another.
