What are the.reasons so many teams stream on NFHS instead of youtube?

NFHS has so many broadcast problems while when I use youtube it's perfect.

What are the benefits and negatives for both from the school's viewpoint??

Some of them are really brutal, but check out the quality of WA's broadcasts. They even have instant replay.

I didn’t google to see what YouTube’s kickback is to the school, but NFHS is supposed to give part of the subscription cost to a school of the subscribers choosing.

Not sure what the setup is required for the school. But I also imagine that plays a big factor. But as a new subscriber to NFHS and only having it work for 8 minutes of the game. I’m thrilled with my decision to subscribe...

Disclosure - I am not involved with our broadcast/production and this is not an endorsement of NFHS, only my experience.

With that being said, Sterling seems to have very few issues with their broadcast on NFHS. Luckily I haven’t missed a game in person this year, but due to work in the past I have had to stream quite a few games and rarely ran into trouble. I have streamed some volleyball games this fall as well with no issues.

I know our broadcast is one of the more professionally looking ones put on. Maybe we have a premium package through NFHS (if one even exists) or we have better equipment as far as connectivity goes for road games? I know when I watch Saturday games of other schools or games throughout the playoffs most teams have a very basic setup and they do seem to have more issues with the broadcast staying online. Just a thought that may be way off, but is the issue more with the production than the site itself?

Another option that I have NO IDEA how it works is broadcasting on Facebook. The JCA Facebook page somehow broadcasts all their games and the quality is very good (No instant replay though).

It's much better than my NFHS.net and appears to be about the same quality as the games I have seen on YouTube.

I almost certainly will cancel my NFHS.net subscription at the conclusion of this football season. They are just really bad.

Some of the HFHS stuff is just laziness with a motion camera and it kills me when they put it in the press box behind an open window, but when it moves it's distorted because all the windows aren't open or worse yet - Wet.

A lot of the time it's all depending upon the school's signal and how they connect to the servers....bad wifi equals bad video stream etc.

How long after the live stream is done before they decide to black out the replay? I tried to watch a Sterling game but was unable due to black out until after the season. I have a feeling Boylan and Sterling will meet again this postseason.

I am sure that many will be watching the ND v. Naz game on YouTube TV Friday night. I watched the Montini v. ND game and the broadcast production was excellent.
In anticipation put the YouTube App on your phone, put the YouTube channel on your tv, from there you follow the instructions to watch the game.

I’m pretty sure it stays up for 24 hours then maybe they’re back on demand after the season is over. I remember a couple years back the guy in charge of it talked about the options with the on demand and I do think when and how long it’s available depends on the package you have. I don’t usually make comments like this but I don’t think you’ll get much by watching the last two games of the year.

I can't bring myself to pay per view on HS sports. I'd rather attend or follow through a Twitter feed from a local reporter. That being said, Batavia does a really nice job on their broadcast through Youtube. Instant replay, great clarity to the camera shots, and multiple cameras going and pretty decent graphics. Definately a hometown call, but no issue with local spin/pride the announcers provide.

Free publicity: BATV1017 on youtube, showing live broadcasts of Batavia games.

Community based TV local cable access I'm guessing....a lot more $$$ and tech support compared to just a high school pulling it off....

As far as the quality of the video and commentary during the game are concerned, Sterling is top-notch. The announcers are very knowledgeable when it comes to analyzing plays and players and while they obviously are for the Golden Warriors, they are the first to give credit to the opposing team for their outstanding plays. I have no rooting interest in Sterling, but still find myself enjoying their broadcasts. P.S. They also feature instant replay as a bonus.

i think the sterling games are available through the end of each weekend. then, they are "blacked out" until the season is over.

Can schools (legitimately) broadcast for free on YouTube or Facebook during the playoffs? I would guess they aren’t supposed to and cut out the IHSA financially. Where they probably can broadcast via NFHS because I assume some money gets funneled to the IHSA for rights.

Not allowed to broadcast for free on YouTube during playoffs. ND hosted pregame show broadcasts before home playoff games last year but posted that per IHSA rules, it was unable to broadcast the actual game. I think NFHS doesn't have that issue because, as you said, the IHSA gets its $$.

As a Carmel guy, I hope that I don't jinx my team by watching Naz live tonight, the game of the season so far. I'll still wear my Carmel jersey and drink an imported Karmeliet beer.

The workaround is to record your screen while letting the game run. Then you can watch it whenever you want.
