Former Franklin County standout and 2009 Sizzlin' Sophomore Tarell Basham was picked 80th (3rd round) by the Indianapolis Colts! I live to see moments like this! Don't know him but very happy for Tarell!

Didn't he have zero offers going into his senior year? Another success story. I wonder if any other guys who played HS ball in VA were drafted before him? Stars mean nothing fellas!!!! Put in that work and you can make it from anywhere. Roanoke/Rocky Mount, VA included!!! Congrats Mr. Basham.

Skins picked up Johnathon Allen from Stone Bridge. I'm very fortunate to say that I saw Basham play quite of few times in high school, however if I was to say that he always had that "look" and was destined to go to the NFL I'd be lying to you. Like you said, zero offers! Great story and an even better example for all young athletes. I saw that he held his draft party in Rocky Mount with his former FC teammates, friends, and family. Sounds like a very good kid. He'll be very successful!

I think I know what you are trying to say. Stars or lack thereof can be overcome with heart and work ethic provided a kid has a certain level of physical ability and measurables. Over the years particularly as more and more information has become available those stars are becoming an even more accurate predictor. There are still misses and exceptions but, not with the same frequency in my opinion. The Basham family provides a good contrast. Tarell is the example of hardwork paying off but, I think he had an older sibling (?) Thad that was at least the same caliber, if not better athlete, that did not maximize his physical abilities to the same level for whatever reason. Congrats to Tarell for getting it done!

Yes Thad was a 6'5 WR with great hands and leaping ability. He had a big time catch over Colonial Forge that led to Franklin County's first playoff win in a long time back in 09. Unfortunately he made very bad decisions and was not able to celebrate his little brother's accomplishments last night.

I saw him at the Western Va/Central Va All Star game. I was thinking with his size and speed that he should have received more college offers.

Former Dan River and VT RB Trey Edmunds signed with Kansas City as a free agent. I feel bad for the kid with all of the injuries he's had. One of the best people you'll ever meet. High character and very humble. Had a great RS freshman year at VT but just couldn't stay healthy. One of my favorite plays of all time against the 2013 defending national champions.

There was a reason Basham had zero offers. He wasn't overlooked, that card shouldn't be played. He worked hard and got to a school and prospered.
