I’d mentioned before that a former NFL official lives in the neighborhood. I’d never really asked any questions until the other day. He was mainly on the chain gang. The on field officials in the black and white stripes are employed by the NFL. The sideline officials including the chain gang, the clock officials, the ball officials, and whatever else are employees of the home team. These guys also serve as on field officials for practice and scrimmage's. When he started they made $60 per day or game, they now currently make $60 per hour. They had to be in stadium three hours prior to kickoffs for meetings with the NFL officials. He worked for Miami and also worked two Super Bowls that were played in Miami. He was there when Saban was coach, hates him. Said that he couldn’t talk to anyone without screaming. Said that when they would throw a flag during practice, Saban would scream at the officials, scream at the player, and then scream at the position coach. He still keeps in touch with a lot of the former coaches. Interesting conversation.
