The NFL overtime system works and should remain as is for the rest of eternity, nothing is broken and nothing needs to be fixed.

If you think it is screwed up, step back and really think and admit to yourself if the team you were rooting for came out on the losing end. If they did that may influence your opinion.

All teams are aware of the OT system prior to not only the game starting but the season starting. Last night, BOTH teams had ample opportunities to win that ball game long before OT became a reality.

My final point is that NFL foot ball is a TEAM sport and defense must win championships as much as offense. If you cannot stop your opponent and they score on the first possession then you deserve to lose. It was NOT the coin flip that decided it, it was your inability to cover a wide receiver, or inability to sack the QB, or inability to stop the run that lost the game. NOT a coin flip.

If you think your team is well rounded enough to compete for a Superbowl the coin flip should never matter. If you win the coin flip great, shove it down their throat and win it on the first possession. If you lose the coin flip, SACK UP AND STOP 'EM, then shove it down their throat for the win.

a 50% chance of not getting the ball and losing because of the flip. They can always go for two and the win.

Good point and one I should edit and include in my original statement, but will not and leave the credit with you for this excellent addition to the OT does NOT suck side of the argument.

Why not require that the winning team score six points? They don't have to win by six, just score six. That way, it would take two fieldgoals or a td to end the game, and the only way the cointoss loser doesn't get the ball if if it can't stop a touchdown score.

I've always said just use the college system only make them start at their own 20 or 30. But I'd be more than happy to see this in the NFL compared to what they have now.

Or have the kickers go head to head kicking fieldgoals. The first to kick the most wins.

Or have the quartebacks do the punt, pass and kick competition.

Or get the two biggest mofos on the team and have them wrestle on the 50 yd. line.

your arguments apply to any of the ****** OT schemes he came up with.

and for the record, i don't have a favorite NFL team, it takesa pretty big game (like yesterday) for me to give a **** about the NFL. so i can look at their OT system objectively and see that it could be much better.

hell, we've come up with 2 or 3 better solutions on here in one day. the current system must really suck for that to be true, right?

Some fantastic critical thinking right there.

Really great thinking. You proved your point and i cant imagine how anyone could tearapartsuch a wellcrafted argument.

Oh, exceptits friggin dumb for a team to never even touch the ball in overtime. Dumb. The current NFL overtime is like if baseballsuddenly went to first team to score wins. Screw playing the inning out, if the first team scores, then they win. Great idea! After all, defense must win championships as much as offense...right?
Therandom flip of a coin gives one team a huge advantage over the other. Doesnt anyone else get ESPN the Mag?Come the hell on.
