and CBS is suing them for pressuring them into paying up. Fantasy football is the best marketing tool in the world. I watch twice as much NFL as I used to just for that reason. I know there's money to be made in it, but fighting with your best marketing tool doesn't seem very productive.

Google the story cause Yuku isn't giving me any hyperlink option.

In previous Madden games, haven't there been players who opted out of having their names mentioned for the very reason of wanting money?

Won't surprise me to see future fantasy football drafts in which certain players are intentionally left out at the request of the player because they wanted money for using their stats. Unreal. This seriously has been the best thing for NFL in recent years in getting interest up among fans.

were not members of the players' association, who contracts with the game maker for the use of members' names and images. i remember there being a "player 23" for the chicago bulls a while back, and i think barry bonds was the same way with mlb games. remember roger clemens' baseball on the old school nintendo? roger was the only player who used his real name. other players with made up names included chicago pitcher M. Gaddox and Mets outfielder D. Raspberry.

the best argument for fantasy providers is that the information is public domain. if the nfl was really wanting to enforce rights as to statistics, they would have to demand fees from every newspaper, magazine, and website that prints boxscores. the 8th circuit case (CBC, i think) got it right.

i definitely don't fault the NFL for trying this. if someone created a billion dollar industry out of your work output, wouldn't you want a cut?
