The way his offense disappears at stretches makes me think he should play on the basketball team and be named Hooper

he's sitting at 6th among regular starters in OBP ... ahead of GG (CN 377%, GG 372%) ... THIS is the stat Forbes points to in almost every conversation about players ...

i suggest Cooper is and will be just fine ... just my 2 cents

the above being said ... i endorse and embrace the OP ;)

At what point does Forbes move Gavin back to third and put Sowers at second? Nicholson has the ceiling but he hasn’t gotten off the floor.
That is more complicated than simply its impact on Nicholson and Sowers because we have no idea what kinds of conversations occurred with Gallaher about him playing in the middle this year.

Seems as likely they’d give Terry a try at 3rd since the consider him a 3B

He has a bit of a wonky stat line. Has a .190 BA with .808 OPS. He has 11 hits: 5 doubles and 3 HRs with 3 singles. He's reached base 29 times in 58 ABs. He's squeezing quite a lot out of such a lowly average.

As we’ve discussed and Forbes has said on our interviews with him. It’s OPS and QABs they focus on.

Look, guys, this isn't going to work unless we flat out say that he sucks and needs to park his arse on the far end of the bench. Also, given his name, the fish references are kind of related, but here we're talking about a leaky hull in a junk heap of a fishing vessel.

I started the thread so I will go in on him. He’s overly aggressive and pressing. Swings at pitches out of the zone and gets himself out. I was ok with him staying at 3rd because I thought his defense was ok, well I learned in the game thread his fielding % is under .900. You have to let him sit and watch. Sometimes that is all it takes.

He looks like he's got the talent to be a solid player at this level, but clearly not playing his best. He may need more time. I would expect Forbes to shake up the infield soon if he doesn't turn things around. Maybe try one of the frosh at 3rd or move Gallaher back there and somebody else at 2nd.

My only problem with that is then you’ve given Nicholson 1/3 of the season to try and figure it out. Then you throw his replacement in during the heart of the season.

Nicholson has done it. Just not on this level. His ceiling is really high. I think that is why Forbes keeps running him out there, hoping it will click

Before now I’m pretty sure. VDB wasn’t giving us anything as far as OBP like Coop is

I just didn’t realize Coopers defense was a bad as it was.

There is a reason 3B is known as the Hot Corner. Let me preface this by acknowledging that Gavin hit the ball much better than Cooper has so far this year, but his fielding percentage at 3B the previous 2 years was .906. Cooper is currently at .898. Spread out over a 100 chances. that difference works out to barely 1 extra error. In fact, to show how much impact just 1 error can make in a relatively small sample (22 games), take away the error today, and Cooper would be fielding .918.

Good point. Perhaps there's too much concern over his fielding, but really my concern is that there is a noticeable drop in play and production at the position from last season. Hopefully he gets better.

Listening to the podcast Tommy and Forbes did yesterday. Forbes mentioned they’ve been working Sowers out at third base, wonder if they’re close to a change.
