Butch also got promoted to associate head coach- that is very well deserved.
Nick will be our hitting coach and can now go off campus to recruit. I suppose he will also coach third base- that's good news for all the first baseman that he has tripped in the past. Hitting coach being relative here since Cohen will still handle that obviously.
What this means is that we will now have to find someone to replace Mingione. And that someone will have to coach either first or third base and run the camps.
Admittedly, not a very exciting move. Nick is going to have to stop acting like a goofball all the time. Hopefully Cohen will give him a shorter leash now that he has more responsibility.
As far as recruiting, my thought is Butch will still recruit Mississippi and Alabama- probably more than ever since now that Lane is gone. And then let Mingione recruit the perfect game showcases and things like that. Mingione is from New York- a state I would like to see us recruit a little bit more. He does have experience as the recruiting coordinator at Western Carolina, but he was only there a year before we hired him away from them. So, not much of a sample size as far as experience. The guys that he recruited were seniors this year and they won over 30 games for whatever that is worth- they were not a senior laden team, so I don't think we can give him that much credit for their success.
