Nick Saban went 6-6 at Alabama in first year.

Just thought I'd give some people a little perspective with our situation. Looks like we made some pretty good improvement team wide especially on defense. The offense looks to be coming along nicely. Now let's get some depth team wide and work on the quarterback situation.

Great point !!!

since you are using Nick as a barometer I guess we can expect 12 wins and a conf title next year followed by 3 national titles in the following 4 years.
Can't wait!!!

Sorry, that does not make me feel better about this lackluster season. Saban also already had a few SEC titles and 1 national title under his belt before coming to Bama. Also, Bama the year before Saban lost 7 games. Unfortunatly, after year 1 of this staff we still have more question marks than answers.

Not to defend Saban as I think he is slimey but they were 6-2 in 2007 with a win over a top 20 team then they had a bunch of players( starters) suspended due to NCAA violations that happened prior to Saban they then proceeded to lose 4 straight games - so 6-6 is a bit misleading - plus he was recruiting like a madman right from the start

We did beat Michigan State and dominate Iowa. Fix the problems that lead to the Purdue loss and others and we'll be in the Conference Title hunt.

Doesn't hurt that he had 3 years of nice classes on campus when he got there. 11th class in 2006, 18th in 2005, 24th in 2004.

Dominate Iowa? In a game where NU never led? You keep like 7 pitchers of the kool-aid on you at all times, don't you?

+1 ... not only did we never lead .... aside from the very 1st possession of the 2nd half we never even had the ball with a chance to take the lead in the second half

I can't believe that despite only having a 5% of winning Iowa pulled that game out

What?

I'll have what you are smoking. Just because you had to run more plays doesn't equate to dominating. I actually don't think you are legally allowed to use that phrase if you lose.

Obviously you haven't seen the stat line from the Iowa game? If we had just one different guy on the roster do we even have a loss this year? Even with all the defensive problems does one guy change everything?

Yeah well we DON'T have one different guy on the roster. This is the real world where those teams really played and NU really lost.

That's like saying, "Oh, take away those 2 long TD runs and our defense held them to 7 points!" Yeah well if your aunt had balls between her legs she'd be your uncle. So what? The only stat line that matters is the one on the scoreboard.

If we wanna play that game, if the refs don't completely hose MSU on that illegal touching play, maybe it's 4-8 at this point.

they only had 11 first downs to our 22
what's sad is aside from the opening possession of the 2nd half we never had the ball after halftime with a chance to take the lead

the stats you reference are a testament to just how bad tommy was/is

Talking out both sides of you mouth is very unbecoming.

no where in that did I proclaim we dominated -- the point is that Tommy sucked - like I said in another thread we had a lot better chance of winning if he had played well - a better chance not a 95% chance like some fool with little football knowledge or credibility had proclaimed pregame

Stats are fine for a point of reference, but there's this thing called a scoreboard, which then translates to a record...........5-7! Sorry, can't sugarcoat it. Plus, if you have a problem with the QB, how come the "player development" coach and his "QB whisperer coach" weren't able to improve upon his skills? Smiling Mike is who he is......a mediocre .500 coach that has done it by hiding behind he facade of being nice. The bed was made by Eichorst, time to sleep in it.

Also, pretty sure Iowa played very conservative with the lead and bad weather. No need to air it out when up two scores and windy/cold temps.

Next you'll tell me that busting two long TD runs on the exact same play call doesn't add much to your 1st down and ToP stats. You're craaaaazy, man...

I'm not a Riley basher but I don't think comparing him to Nick Saban is a great way to give his doubters "a little perspective."

Wow. This is like all of the Blo fans trying to compare Blo to Coach Osborne. Please just stop, rover. Riley may very well have some success here.....and I am pulling for him...but I can guarantee you that this is a terrible comparison.
Give it a couple years, then he'll be Osborne when he's not losing QUITE so much, but still only winning 8-9 games.

I for one, didn't come running to bail out any poster, nor do I start fifteen threads a day telling everyone how great Riley is. Personally, I think that might be even more embarrassing.

Yes, our QB is not equipped to manage a Riley style offense. He will be better next year and POB will an excellent fit the following year. I would however like to see a JC QB in thus class or the next one ...

I think Riley has the chance to be a pretty good coach for you guys if you give him some time. Seems like he is trying to get some big recruits but he is going to need at least 3-4 years to see what you have with him.

Saban pulled in the #1 class in 08' so I'm guess Riley pulls in the #0.5 class this year!!
Notice how NO one is really replying to this. Nick went 6-6 and had the #1 dam recruiting class so help was on the way. Sadly the 5-7 record doesn't scare me as much as bad as recruiting does. And I know this staff is working its *** off on recruiting, just like they did at coaching. They just aren't getting the job done.

Signing is done in February, so that's February of 2007, after the 2006 year in which NS was not the coach. The guy is so good that he got a top 10 class in 2 months. MR finished 31 in 2015, so if your going by first recruiting cycle after he went 6-6, he landed the #1 class.

If your going by first LOI day, then 2007 class was #10. So still much better than what we have going on in Lincoln
